[01:11:12]Observation questions- What stands out about Luke calling the seventy-two “others,” especially when Luke 9 describes Jesus sending the twelve? What does the passage tell us—and not tell us—about the background or qualifications of these “others”? [01:03:24]
- What commands does Jesus give the seventy-two in verses 2–4, and how do prayer, going, dependence, and urgency fit together?
- In verses 5–9, what are the disciples told to bring into a home or town? What actions show that they are there to serve rather than to gain something for themselves? [01:12:54]
- What contrast does Jesus make between the joy of the seventy-two in verse 17 and the greater joy he gives them in verse 20? [01:32:12]
Interpretation questions- Jesus sends the seventy-two ahead of him into places where he is about to go. What does this show about the role of a believer in someone else’s relationship with Jesus? Why is it important that no believer has to be another person’s Savior? [01:04:22]
- Jesus calls his followers lambs among wolves. How does that image shape the way believers should respond when sharing Christ feels uncomfortable, difficult, or unwelcome? [01:09:40]
- Jesus tells his disciples to say, “Peace be to this house.” What does God’s peace mean in this passage, and how does it change a believer’s posture from “What can I get?” to “What can I bring?” [01:12:54]
- Jesus warns cities that saw his works but still rejected him. Why is hearing truth, attending church, or knowing Bible stories not the same as surrendering to Jesus as Lord? [01:20:47]
Application questions- Who is one person, workplace, family member, neighbor, or school connection that God may already be putting on your heart? What could it look like to pray earnestly for that person and then take one simple step toward them this week? [01:38:17]
- Where do you most feel like a lamb among wolves right now? What would trusting the Good Shepherd look like in that situation instead of relying on confidence, control, or having all the right answers? [01:39:10]
- Jesus sends his people to carry peace. Is there a relationship, online conversation, workplace tension, or family situation where you have been focused more on what you can get than on what you can bring? What might it look like to bring the peace of God there? [01:39:43]
- Since believers carry the name of Jesus, what kind of picture of Jesus do people see through the way you speak, handle frustration, treat service workers, post online, or respond when things do not go your way? [01:28:41]
- Is there a place where rejection, lack of visible results, or someone’s response has made you feel responsible for the outcome? How can you be faithful, loving, and clear while leaving the harvest in God’s hands? [01:17:24]
- What ministry result, answered prayer, role, or accomplishment can become a scoreboard for your sense of worth? How can the truth that your name is written in heaven become a steadier source of joy this week? [01:33:06]
- Before being a worker, ambassador, volunteer, or leader, every follower of Jesus belongs to him. How does that truth speak to you on a week when you feel useful—and on a week when you feel like you have failed? [01:41:21]
