[01:08:29] Observation questions
- In Luke 6:27–28, what four responses does Jesus command toward people who act like enemies—those who hate, curse, or abuse others? [44:14]
- What examples show that blessing someone involves more than giving money, including words of encouragement and prayer in the moment? [45:37]
- In Luke 6:32–35, what repeated contrast does Jesus make between ordinary human behavior and the behavior He calls for from His followers? [01:01:11]
- In Luke 6:37–38, what words are placed alongside “judge not,” and how do forgiveness and generosity appear in the same section? [01:05:00]
Interpretation questions
- Jesus speaks to those who are willing to listen and to His disciples. Why might these commands require a heart that has already submitted to Jesus rather than simply a desire to avoid conflict? [43:18]
- What does “turn the other cheek” mean when the offense is a personal insult or a nonviolent attack? How is that different from remaining in an abusive or dangerous situation? [51:42]
- Why does Jesus connect loving enemies and lending without expecting repayment to the character of the Father, who is kind to the ungrateful and evil? [01:03:40]
- How can believers distinguish condemning someone from using wise discernment about that person’s actions or fruit? How can truth and kindness remain together in a relationship? [01:06:23]
Application questions
- Think of a person whose words or actions have recently gotten under your skin. What would it look like this week to bless that person instead of replaying the offense, speaking harshly, or seeking payback? [48:40]
- When pride is wounded, what is the usual reaction—arguing, defending, withdrawing, getting even, or something else? What could help create a pause before reacting? [01:10:43]
- Is there a current conflict where responding in kindness does not mean agreeing with the other person or approving of what they are doing? What truthful and caring response might protect the relationship without compromising conviction? [01:07:55]
- Is there a practical need, loan, or opportunity to help someone that has been avoided because repayment, gratitude, or recognition is uncertain? What would open-handed generosity look like while still caring wisely for household responsibilities? [01:02:27]
- Jesus calls His people to be merciful as the Father is merciful. Where is there a temptation to assume the worst about someone’s motives or to condemn them without knowing their full situation? [01:06:11]
- When anger or selfishness has already shaped a response, what does repentance, seeking forgiveness, and learning a better response for next time look like? [55:11]
- Where is discernment needed right now to know whether the faithful response is to absorb an offense, speak truth, set a boundary, seek help, or take steps toward safety? [01:14:42]
