When faced with hurt, betrayal, or injustice, the natural urge is to retaliate or seek revenge. Yet, God calls His people to a higher standard: to resist the temptation to repay evil for evil and instead to trust Him with the outcome. By feeding our enemies when they are hungry and giving them drink when they are thirsty, we demonstrate the radical love of Christ and leave room for God’s justice. This is not weakness, but strength—choosing to overcome evil with good, knowing that vengeance belongs to the Lord. When you let God handle it, you are freed from bitterness and empowered to live in peace, even with those who wrong you. [08:54]
Romans 12:17-21 (ESV)
Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Reflection: Who is someone in your life you are tempted to “get back at” or hold a grudge against? What would it look like to let God handle it and respond with kindness instead?
Many believe that being good, attending church, or following religious rules is what connects us to God. But Scripture makes it clear: none are righteous on their own, and all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Our connection with God is not based on our own goodness, but on His grace and the redemption found in Jesus Christ. This humbling truth levels the ground for all believers and reminds us that salvation is a gift, not a reward for our efforts. [12:23]
Romans 3:10, 23 (ESV)
As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;” ... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Reflection: In what ways have you relied on your own goodness or religious activity to feel right with God? How can you rest today in the truth that your salvation is a gift of grace?
After experiencing God’s mercy and salvation, the only reasonable response is to offer ourselves fully to Him. God desires not just our words or outward acts, but our whole selves—transformed, holy, and set apart for His purposes. This means refusing to conform to the world’s patterns and instead allowing God to renew our minds, changing us from the inside out. Transformation is a process, but as we yield to God, our lives become a living sacrifice, pleasing to Him. [18:10]
Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Reflection: What is one area of your life that you have been holding back from God? How can you offer it to Him as a living sacrifice today?
True Christian love is not about putting on a show or saying the right words while harboring resentment or indifference inside. God calls us to let our love be without hypocrisy—real, pure, and sincere. This means loving others even when it’s hard, refusing to act or pretend, and letting go of hidden motives. Genuine love hates evil, clings to what is good, and shows kindness even to those who may not deserve it. [28:27]
Romans 12:9-10 (ESV)
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Reflection: Is there someone you have been pretending to love or treating with surface-level kindness? What step can you take today to let your love be genuine and sincere?
There are battles in life—conflicts, injustices, and hurts—that are simply too great for us to handle on our own. God invites us to step back and let Him fight for us, trusting that He sees, He knows, and He will act in His perfect timing. Even when it looks like evil has won, God is still at work, and His resurrection power can bring victory out of defeat. Waiting on God is not passive; it is an act of faith that declares, “The battle is not mine, but the Lord’s.” [42:33]
Exodus 14:14 (ESV)
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
Reflection: What struggle or conflict are you facing right now that feels overwhelming? How can you surrender it to God today and trust Him to fight for you?
Today, we gathered in the presence of the Lord, reminded that where His Spirit is, there is liberty and deliverance. Many of us come carrying pain—physical, emotional, or spiritual—but God alone is able to bring true healing and freedom. Our role is to create an environment where the Spirit is welcomed, recognized, and honored, so that He can move among us and do what only He can do.
Turning to Romans 12, we are called to a life that is transformed by God’s mercy, not by our own righteousness or religious performance. Paul’s letter to the Romans makes it clear: none of us are righteous on our own, and our connection to God is not based on our works, but on the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We are justified by faith, saved by grace, and made new through Christ’s sacrifice. This transformation is not just a one-time event, but an ongoing process that begins in the mind and works its way out into every part of our lives.
As redeemed people, we are urged to present our bodies as living sacrifices—holy and acceptable to God. This means refusing to be conformed to the world’s patterns, but instead allowing God to continually renew and transform us. In the body of Christ, each of us has a unique role and gift. There is no room for jealousy or comparison; instead, we are to celebrate and support one another, recognizing that every member is essential.
Paul then challenges us to let our love be genuine, without hypocrisy or pretense. We are to hate evil, cling to what is good, and show kindness even to those who mistreat us. The call to bless those who persecute us, to refuse to repay evil for evil, and to live at peace as much as possible is not easy. It goes against our natural instincts, especially when we are wronged or provoked. Yet, we are reminded that vengeance belongs to God. When we let Him handle our battles, we are freed from the cycle of retaliation and bitterness.
Jesus Himself modeled this on the cross, praying for those who crucified Him and entrusting His spirit to the Father. What looked like defeat was actually the stage for God’s ultimate victory. In the same way, we are called to trust God with our hurts and our enemies, knowing that He is just and faithful. The battle is not ours, but the Lord’s. Our task is to overcome evil with good, to stand firm in faith, and to let God handle what we cannot.
You may not have you may not feel like moving, but you ought to feel him. You ought to feel his presence in this place today because he's here today. And where the spirit of the Lord is, there's liberty. [00:01:19]
They may be physical pain and your the pain may be even deeper than that. It may be emotional. It may be mental. Um the pain could originate and im emanate from your family from your workplace from your own spirit and heart today. This is why it's so important to to know that the spirit of the lord is present. [00:02:58]
We have to create that environment for him in order for him to come in. And when he come in, the Bible said where he is there is freedom. There's deliverance. from wherever you are. In your life, there is deliverance. I'm just only or we're just only his tools to create that environment so that he can come in. [00:04:18]
Because a lot of us think that we will get to heaven based upon our righteousness, based upon our goodness, and based upon the length of time that we have spent in church. Servant of God. Well done. Been in the church all your life. may end up going to hell while the man on the cross who never gone to church end up going home with Jesus. [00:11:13]
And so Rome clearly helps us to understand our connection with God through salvation and redemption is not from our righteousness. And so Paul starts off early in chapter 3 verse 10. He says, "There is none righteous. No, not one. Yeah. And in verse 23, he says, "For we all have sinned." [00:12:17]
But you ain't no better than nobody else in his sight. I'm talking about the book today. If you'll read Romans, particularly through chapter 11, Paul lays out plainly to the saints, their connection and how we are connected with Christ. And it ain't through your righteousness. That's right. It ain't through your righteousness. [00:13:08]
He tells us how to be redeemed. He tells us tells us what happened to be redeemed. Then chapter 12, he starts to talk to us as the redeemed. You're preaching. And he start off with the word therefore. Therefore mean since that happened. Since he saved you. Consequently after he saved you. After he done done that. [00:17:21]
Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reason. for service and be not conformed. Don't be bonded with the world. Be not attached to the world. Connected to the world. Don't let the world dictate to you what you do or what you say, but be transformed. [00:19:33]
You can't change overnight. Be ye transformed. Start with the mind by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable will of God. And then he moves into how we ought to act as a collective body by saying to us, we are all members of one body. [00:20:38]
There's a way that we ought to act as a collective body of believers working together. I pastor six churches and there have been some situation that I said the these folk ain't going to never I have said that I show hope whenever let me see if I can say I I've been sitting there at the funeral and said to myself Lord don't let me die in the next few days I don't want to be there when that didn't come to you that been fighting Ever since I've been here, he been fighting against He been fighting everybody. He don't agree with nobody. [00:21:04]
You may not be able to be a preacher. You may not be able, you may not have the God may not have anointed you with the gift of being a a musician may not given you. Listen, I grew up around folk who know how to sing, who could sing and they just kind of put up with me. They kind of laughed at me. I didn't care. That ain't my gift. [00:22:00]
Let love be without dissimilation. Dissimilation just a Greek word that goes back to the word hypocrite. And if you go back further than that, it just simply mean let love be without acting. Because in the he in the in the in the Jew uh the in the Greek language, that word hypocrite goes back to just one word, actor. [00:26:12]
Let love be clean, pure. Mean that you love somebody. So many times we have misused this word. We have messed this word up. Love. I sometimes we mess it up in our music. I love you. I love you. I love you, Lord. Today we get sensual with it. When you don't love, that whole sensuality suggests that you don't even love him because of what you're doing. [00:28:27]
Bless those what? Bless those who persecute you, who talk about you, who lie on you. Bless and don't curse him. Rejoice. Verse 15, rejoice with them that rejoice. Weep with them who weeps. Good God Almighty. Treat everybody the same. That's verse 16. Treat everybody. [00:30:24]
Don't try to lie on them cuz they lied on you. Yes. All right. Your transformation took the fight out of you. Yes, sir. Listen. Don't you wish everybody were nice? All right. Don't you wish everybody was kind and gentle? Don't you wish that all your co-workers were just nice and honest and respectful? Don't you wish that all your family members were considerate and not greedy and not jealous? [00:33:06]
Sometime the Lord will stand back and let they do what they do. When they fulfilled the prophecy. Yes sir. When they took him down and put him in a grave. Yes, sir. Sometime you got to wait on God to handle it. When they did what they planned to do, they did what God or what what what we wouldn't believe that God would allow him to do. [00:41:49]
