Matthew 18:15-20 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. How then can we live?” Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?’”

Interpretation questions

Application questions
- Is there someone whose offenses you have been tracking through a mental ledger—an apology they owe, respect they failed to show, or hurt they have not acknowledged? What might it look like to release that debt to God while still taking wise steps toward truth and accountability? [01:07:49]
- When conflict comes, do you tend more toward canceling people or toward keeping a false peace by staying silent? What has that pattern produced in your heart and relationships? [46:09]
- Is there a conversation you have delayed because it feels uncomfortable or risky? What would it look like to speak truth as a watchman’s warning—aiming for safety, repentance, and restoration rather than winning or humiliating? [54:02]
- Have you spoken about a person’s failure with others before speaking directly to that person? What would it take to stop the spread of gossip and keep the circle as small as possible? [58:38]
- Before a difficult text, email, phone call, or dinner-table conversation, what raw emotions most often control your words? How could you intentionally put on Christ’s patience, clarity, boundaries, and humility first? [01:08:39]
