[01:02:24]Observation questions
- What was Israel’s immediate physical need at Rephidim, and how did the people respond to Moses and to God?
- What names did Moses give the place in Exodus 17, and what actions or words from Israel led to those names? [51:38]
- In Psalm 95:1-7, what descriptions of God are given before the warning about hardened hearts?
- What contrast is seen between Israel’s song after crossing the Red Sea in Exodus 15 and their question in Exodus 17:7? [01:02:32]
Interpretation questions
- Why is Israel’s question, “Is the LORD among us or not?” a deeper problem than simply asking God to provide water? [56:14]
- How does calling God “the rock of our salvation” in Psalm 95 connect to God providing water from the rock at Horeb?
- Psalm 95 moves from singing and thanksgiving to bowing, kneeling, and hearing the Shepherd’s voice. What does that movement show about the kind of worship God desires? [52:39]
- Why can repeated signs, answered prayers, or even miracles fail to produce trust and obedience in a person’s heart? [39:35]
Application questions
- What is a present “water problem” in life—a real need, fear, pressure, or uncertainty—that could tempt someone to ask, “Is the Lord with me or not?” How can that need be honestly brought to God without turning it into a test of him? [47:13]
- When has God clearly provided, guided, forgiven, or sustained someone in the past, yet that person still found themselves demanding fresh proof before trusting him again? What would it look like to remember God’s past faithfulness this week? [01:04:44]
- Gratitude recognizes God’s gifts, acknowledgement declares who God is, and confession tells the truth about the heart. Which of these three is most easily neglected, and what could make it more genuine in daily prayer? [01:06:12]
- Singing worship songs does not automatically mean that a heart is surrendered to Jesus. Are there areas where outward worship and everyday obedience have become disconnected—for example, prayer, Scripture, relationships, forgiveness, purity, or obedience to a clear conviction? [01:00:28]
- Psalm 95 says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Is there a specific way God may be calling someone to respond today rather than delaying—through confession, reconciliation, obedience, or returning to him? [57:01]
- Repentance means returning to God for the heart change only he can give. What would a real return to God look like this week, beyond simply saying, “Sorry”? [01:09:09]
