[14:22]Observation questions- What actions does Jesus take with the bread and the cup in 1 Corinthians 11:23–25, and what words does He repeat about both elements? [03:00]
- According to 1 Corinthians 11:26, what does the church proclaim whenever it eats the bread and drinks the cup?
- What specific behaviors in Corinth showed that the believers were not treating the meal as the Lord’s Supper? [19:21]
- In Exodus 12, what did Israel do with the lamb’s blood, and what did God promise to do when He saw that blood? [12:06]
Interpretation questions- Jesus established the new covenant during a Passover meal. How does Israel’s deliverance from Egypt help explain why Christ’s body and blood are central at the Lord’s table? [15:01]
- Paul says that eating and drinking together proclaims the Lord’s death “until he comes.” Why does Communion look back to Christ’s death while also looking ahead to His return?
- The Corinthian believers were gathering in the same place, but their selfish actions damaged fellowship. What does their failure reveal about the connection between honoring Christ and caring for Christ’s people? [19:57]
- Paul tells a person to examine himself and then eat and drink. Why is self-examination meant to lead to repentance and readiness, rather than simply keeping a struggling believer away from Christ? [25:37]
Application questions- Communion is not a routine to rush through; it is a remembrance of Christ’s body given and His blood poured out. What helps you slow down and remember the price Jesus paid for you? [07:08]
- Is there any way you have approached Communion mainly as something for yourself—without considering the needs, burdens, or place of other believers in the church? What might it look like to come to the table with a heart for the whole body? [23:57]
- Paul’s instruction to “wait for one another” calls the church to shared fellowship rather than personal advantage. Are there people in your church community who may feel overlooked, left out, or unseen? What is one practical way you could include or care for them this week? [19:28]
- Before receiving Communion, what areas of selfishness, unresolved conflict, hidden sin, or spiritual coldness might need to be honestly brought before the Lord? [27:11]
- Self-examination includes trusting that God knows the heart and welcomes repentance. When you recognize sin in your life, do you tend to hide from God, excuse it, or bring it to Him? What would honest repentance look like in your current situation? [26:45]
- Christ has opened the way for His people to sit at the Lord’s table. How does this truth change the way you view your standing before God—not as someone earning a place, but as someone received because of Jesus? [16:28]
