The Lord Will Provide: Sacrifice, Provision, and Communion

The story of the medical student begins with honor, but it turns quickly toward the mother who made that honor possible. The diploma and the award did not really belong to the young man alone, because his mother had taken in washing, cleaned houses, worked after her full-time job, and quietly paid a price he could not pay. The mother’s love said, in effect, “no price is too great,” and that story opens the door to the larger truth that everything good in a believer’s life is owed to Jesus Christ.

Genesis 22 brings that truth into a hard and holy place. God tested Abraham, but that testing was not the kind of temptation meant to derail or destroy. God’s test was more like the teacher stepping back and asking, “What have you learned? How deep does this go? How much do you trust what has been given?” God never tests in order to harm, and Jeremiah’s promise of hope and a future stands behind even the moments that are not understood.

Abraham heard God call for Isaac, his son, his only son, whom he loved, and Abraham did not run.
