#WaitWithGod
“Waiting is relational. Waiting is humility. Waiting is going, it's your way, not my way. It's your time, not my time. It's your life. I just want you and I wanna be with you. I wanna be in pace with where you're going. We need to wait on the lord. Wherever you are right now in your pace with him, he knows and understands and he's with you and he's near to you. He just wants you to be with him. You know, some of us are so busy trying to get out of the valley of the shadow of death for the green fields that we miss that he's in both.”

#KnowAndBeKnown
“Jesus doesn't wanna just have a relationship with you. He wants all of you. He doesn't want you to just follow him. He wants you to intimately know him, and he wants to intimately know you. And then he says, I I wanna just gaze your beauty. This is to behold the Lord, not just to know about him because you can know a lot about the ocean. But it's not until you sit on a beach and you hear the waves crash that you recognize how glorious it actually is.”

#FearlessWithGod
“Whom shall I fear? The languages here is like every painful, hard, crazy situation that you have in your life is in a courtroom. This is courtroom language. And it's all around you, all your pain, all your hurt, all your finances, all the political craziness that's happening around the world, all the ambiguity. It's in a courtroom, and it's coming to condemn you, and you are literally sitting with the Lord going, bring it on, bro. Bring it on. I'm not afraid because he's with me.”

#FaithIsNotEasy
“Who told you that being a Christian was easy? If they did, they lied to you. If you'll remind yourself, Joseph and Mary's life got exponentially harder when Jesus showed up on the scene. Why do you think it'll be any different than you? And all the scripture keeps telling you and yet we're still bummed anytime to because our perspective is off. It's skewed. We're thinking of earthly things as opposed to heavenly things and we're missing out.”

#BringYourHumanityToGod
“Oftentimes, there's this posture of heart going, I know your God but I got some things. And he's like, bring it on. Why is David a man after God's own heart? I am under the conviction that the reason why he's a man after God's own heart is because he's not afraid to petition God, which means this, he's not afraid to be human. I think many of us are afraid to be human before God.”

#GodHearsYou
“Life feels like this at times. Right? You're like, I got it. I'm doing good. Feels like you're walking on solid ground and all of a sudden something takes your legs out from underneath you and you're like, God are you even listening to me? Does anyone feel that sometimes? Yeah. You even listening to me? Do do you hear my prayers? David's going like, are you listening to me? Come on. Be gracious. Like, give a bro a shot. It's so human. Do you know this? God is not offended by your humanity.”

#FeastInHisPresence
“But he's talking about this God who prepares a table in the presence of our enemy. Have you ever thought to think about that? Like you're sitting at the table with the Lord all like this courtroom, all the heart, all the pain is all around you and you're like, could you pass the bread? Like, I'm hungry. And everyone's like, don't you understand how scary it is out there? And you're like, I don't know, but I'm with him and we're having chicken wings and I like chicken wings. And we're eating because I'm good, because I'm with the Lord. This is what David's trying to help get into our system.”
37s
#SalvationIsPresence
“Jesus. Because it's not about just getting you and I out of a really hard situation, which is what so many of us want. This is about a relationship. This is this is a a with you. You know, I think so many of us are trying to get out of the valley of the shadow of death into these green fields when in reality, it's in both. That's the great paradox. That's what he's saying where real salvation lives is it lives with Christ in us, in us acknowledging that he's not left us, that he's not forsaken us. And as we experience that, we experience salvation.”
35s
#TheLordIsMyLight
“But I think what's happening is fear has been this driving force time trying to figure out how to grab control of something we cannot, and David's trying to shift our focus and go, look, that's not going to work, so let's realign ourselves. And so his confession of the Lord is this, that that you are light. The Lord is my light. And we could think, oh, that's just a really sweet sentiment about the Lord, but here's what he's really confessing. Actually, this is an issue of light life or death.”
37s
#PetitionNotDemand
“God is giving humanity the opportunity to petition him to say, this doesn't make sense or I would like this. You see, petitions are not demands, they're desires. David says this, hide not, turn not, cast me not off, teach me, leave me Lord, give me not up. He's petitioning God. You know you can petition God. He wants you to. Many of you feel like you're demanding God or you're pointing your finger at God. Oftentimes, that's not the case.”
26s
#HonestFaith
“But I get him. And I think the psalmist is trying to invite us into our humanity and trying to say, see how hard it is and he's okay with it, but could you just be honest and relationally engage with him and trust him? Because in that moment, you don't have to be afraid anymore. We walk through this life going, even though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil. Why? Because you're with me.”
33s
#CuriousBeforeGod
“Inquiry is relational. This is David saying, standing before the Lord is like, tell me more. There's a curiosity that he has about this beauty, about dwelling with the Lord. Tell me more. He's wanting to inquire of the Lord about life. Are you inquiring about the do you know the Lord loves curious children? Loves them. Do you know he loves when you ask questions? He loves it. He's like, come on. Keep coming. Keep coming.”
36s
#HopeInHisResurrection
“Have you imagined what your life would look like without the reassurance that the king of kings and the lord of lords became human, dying on a cross for you and I and didn't stay in the grave. And it's prepared a place for you and I to live in intimacy with him for the rest of eternity. Can you imagine your life in can you just reflect on that? There's this hope that comes from reflecting on the goodness of God in the midst of the hardest things in life.”
27s
#OneThingToBelieve
“with shouts of joy. I will sing and make a melody to the Lord. Why? Because he's got this one thing. You know, scripture's not all that complicated. It is. I get it. It's hard. But all of scripture is constantly the writers are trying to get us to focus on the main things. So David's like, look, I know there's a lot of things, but I just want you to get this one thing, and it's this internal truth that we get to preach to ourselves and believe.”
39s
#OneThingInChaos
“You know, in the in the in in the distraction of all that is out in there in the world, all these different pathways, the writers of scripture come to us and they're trying to help us see the one things, the primary things. You know, if you remember Jesus in the rich young ruler, the rich young ruler has a lot of things, but Jesus says you're only missing how many things? One thing. You lack one thing. Now he lacked way more than just one thing, but Jesus is like that one thing is affecting all the things. David here says, one thing I ask. This is a single focus in the chaos of life.”
34s
#IntimacyIsArtillery
“And he's like, I'm that rock. That's what David's talking about. David's like, look to him. He's the light. He's the salvation. He's the stronghold, and you don't have to be afraid. So it doesn't matter about the heaviness that's around you. It's real. But don't be distracted. So then there's this pivot that he happens in in verse four where he's talking again in one two three, all this external stuff and this external things, and now he wants us to move in internally. I call it intimacy as artillery.”
33s
#HeUnderstandsYou
“because you're not in control and you want to, and I get it. So many of us have gone through really traumatic things, really hard things, and we are obsessed with the fact that we think we can control. Once you come to understand you are weak and he is strong, you will take a beat. You will go and he says, wait. He bookends it because he's like, you're gonna forget because we're human and he understands our human. And it says in Hebrews four that he empathizes, sympathizes with our humanity.”
37s
#IntimacyThroughDisappointment
“You are willing to be disappointed by God because you can understand he is God and you are not. Gosh, we wanna be God, don't we? Oh. If only he would just do what we wanted to do. But as we do this deep dive into intimacy, we allow ourselves to be disappointed, and that's what relationship is all about. That's where deep intimacy grows. I believe you are who you say you are, but I'm also disappointed when my petitions don't happen and he he's okay with it. But I want you to know, he's okay.”
50s
#ProximityBringsProtection
“And see what happens as a result in verses five through six, there's protection that follows this proximity to God's presence in our lives. This protection follows this proximity to this internal work that's happening, and he says this, and now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me. You know, so many Christians have their head down. So many humans have their head down, situationally obsessed about what's in front of them, and it's drowning you. If you you're thinking like if I could just fix this thing, I just solve this thing, everything will be better. And David's like, hey, listen, in the presence of God, in the presence of this reality of who he is, my head is up.”
35s
#AbideAndBearFruit
“So he's pointing us back to this internal thing that we need to be aware of and he goes, I just this one thing, I just want to dwell with you. That means I just wanna take up residence in you. I wanna fight this battle, but I wanna do it with you. John 15, Jesus says, abide in me, and I'll abide in you, and you'll do what? You'll bear much fruit. Without me, you can do what? Nothing. David's like, but I wanna do some stuff. There's lots that go on and it it but I need to dwell with him. You need to make space.”
