When faced with overwhelming challenges, it is easy to focus on the obstacles and forget the promises God has made. Caleb and Joshua saw the same giants as the other spies, but they chose to trust in God’s faithfulness and the abundance He had promised. Instead of being paralyzed by fear, they encouraged the people to move forward, confident that God would bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey. When you are tempted to dwell on your problems, remember to look at the “grapes”—the evidence of God’s goodness and faithfulness—instead of the giants that seem insurmountable. [03:30]
Numbers 14:7-9 (ESV)
and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”
Reflection: What is one “giant” in your life that you have been focusing on more than God’s promises? How can you intentionally shift your focus to God’s faithfulness today?
Fear and doubt are powerful giants that can keep us from stepping into God’s best for us. The Israelites allowed fear to cloud their judgment, forgetting all the ways God had already provided for them. Yet, Scripture reminds us that God is with us, strengthening and upholding us even when we are afraid. When fear threatens to overwhelm you, choose to trust in God’s presence and promises, knowing that He is bigger than any fear or doubt you may face. [07:55]
Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Reflection: When fear or doubt creeps in, what is one practical way you can remind yourself of God’s presence and strength in that moment?
No matter what giants you face—whether sickness, pain, or financial struggles—God is your healer and provider. The Bible assures us that by Jesus’ stripes we are healed, and that God will supply all our needs according to His riches. Even when circumstances seem dire, God’s faithfulness remains. Trust that He sees your needs and is able to provide, sometimes in ways you do not expect or understand. [12:10]
Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Reflection: What is one area of need—physical, emotional, or financial—where you need to trust God’s provision or healing today? How can you bring this to Him in prayer?
Throughout Scripture, God’s people had to take a step of faith before seeing His promises fulfilled. Whether it was Noah building the ark, Abraham leaving his homeland, or Esther approaching the king, each had to move forward in obedience, even when the outcome was uncertain. God calls you to take that first step, trusting that He will be with you and guide you through every challenge. Don’t wait for all the details to be clear—move forward in faith, knowing God is holding your hand. [24:43]
Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Reflection: What is one step of faith God is prompting you to take right now, even if you don’t see the whole path ahead? What would it look like to trust Him and move forward?
When life’s giants loom large, it is vital to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith. Meditate on what is true, noble, and praiseworthy, and give thanks even in the midst of your struggles. God promises to sustain you and bring you through every trial. As you focus on His goodness and faithfulness, you will find strength and peace to persevere, no matter what you face. [27:24]
Philippians 4:6-8 (ESV)
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Reflection: What is one specific thing you can thank God for today, even if your circumstances haven’t changed? How can you make gratitude a daily habit to keep your focus on Jesus?
The story of the spies sent into Canaan is a powerful reminder of the choice we face every day: to focus on the giants or the grapes. The land was indeed good, just as God had promised—a land flowing with milk and honey. Yet, most of the spies returned with a fearful report, seeing only the giants and fortified cities, forgetting the faithfulness and promises of God. Caleb, however, saw the abundance and remembered what God had already spoken. He urged the people to trust, to move forward, and to take possession of what God had given.
Fear, doubt, and unbelief are giants that still confront us. They can cause us to lose sight of God’s promises and stir up rebellion in our hearts, just as they did for Israel. The Israelites’ refusal to trust led to wandering and loss, but God’s grace was still present—He pardoned, even as He disciplined. We, too, are often tempted to focus on our problems, to wish for the comfort of the past, or to be overwhelmed by the size of our challenges. Yet, God calls us to remember His faithfulness, to look at the “grapes”—the evidence of His goodness and provision.
Throughout Scripture, we see men and women who faced their own giants: Moses at the Red Sea, Joshua at the Jordan, Esther before the king, Gideon in the winepress, Abraham and Sarah stepping into the unknown. Each had to take a step of faith, often without knowing the outcome, trusting that God would be with them. Their stories remind us that God is bigger than any obstacle, and that He honors those who trust Him enough to move forward.
In our own lives, giants may take the form of health issues, financial struggles, broken relationships, or deep fears. The enemy wants us to focus on these, to be paralyzed by anxiety and doubt. But God’s Word is full of promises: He is our healer, our provider, our peace, and our strength. When we keep our eyes on Him—when we look at the grapes instead of the giants—He brings us through. Even when faith is hard, we can pray, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” God is faithful to sustain us, to hold us with His righteous right hand, and to bring us into the fullness of His promises.
``Sometimes it's hard to have faith. When you're facing those giants. Sometimes those giants look really big. But in reality, they're like the grasshoppers in God's sight. Because God is bigger than any giant, than any fear, than any doubt, than any unbelief, than any problem, any mountain we might face. God is bigger. And nothing can defeat our God. The circumstances may not look real good right now, and I wish they would hurry up and let's walk on through. But I need to focus on the grapes. I need to focus on the promises, on the blessings, on everything that he's told me. He told me right here he'll supply all my needs. He told me right here I won't lack for anything good because I'm one of his. He told me he will see us through. [00:14:17] (35 seconds) #TrustHisProvision
We're supposed to love one another. We're supposed to forgive one another, pray for one another, and pursue peace with all men. It's Romans 12 and 18 and I don't think I wrote this down, Francis. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Sometimes we have to pray really hard about that one because sometimes people are not real easy to live with. Gideon was hiding in the wine press. He was hiding their wheat, their grain, because the Amalekites, another one of those ites, was stealing it and threatening to come and destroy them. And God came to him and said, Gideon, you're a mighty man of valor. Well, Gideon didn't think so. But God thought so. So it didn't really matter what Gideon thought, I guess. God said, you're a mighty man of valor. [00:23:11] (33 seconds) #MightyManOfValor
We need to take that step like Brother Hooper said last week. Take that step of faith. And while we're taking that step of faith, don't look at the giants. Look at the grapes. Remember what God has told us that he would be with us. He would never leave us or forsake us. That he would be with us and that he would bring us through. [00:24:30] (29 seconds) #StepInFaith
Focus on the grapes. Keep our eyes on Jesus. He's the author and finisher of our faith. Keep our eyes on him and don't look at the mountains, the giants, the circumstances, the problems. Keep our eyes on him and take that every step that we take forward. Know he's holding our hand. He said, I will hold you with my righteous right hand and I will never let you go.
