Luke begins with Gabriel coming to Mary and saying that she is highly favored, that the Lord is with her, and that the child to be born in her shall be called Jesus. Mary asks the plain question, “How shall these things be, seeing I know not a man?” The angel answers that the Holy Ghost shall come upon her and the power of the Highest shall overshadow her, because with God nothing shall be impossible. Mary answers in that quiet surrendered way, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done according to thy word.”
Genesis takes the thought back to the very beginning, when God existed by Himself, alone with His thoughts, and in His mind He already had a plan. God brought forth the Logos, and that Logos brooded over the earth, bringing order out of chaos, light out of darkness, and a habitation place for man. God formed man out of the dust, breathed into him the breath of life, placed him in the garden, and gave him responsibility over what had been provided. God talked with Adam, gave commandments, and already knew Adam would fall.
God’s plan already included the second Adam. Adam would need blood, a lamb, a sacrifice for sin, but God Himself would come in the second Adam to redeem man back into fellowship. God shows Himself not only as Creator, but as Savior, Provider, Healer, Judge, and Father. All those characteristics were in Him from the beginning, and He made them known in Jesus Christ.
Luke’s account of Mary becomes more than a Christmas scene. The Holy Ghost overshadowed Mary and created life in her womb, and the very Logos lived in Jesus. Mary did not understand it from the flesh standpoint, but the word came to her, and she received it. In this age, the word has made Christ Jesus plain and clear, so that the man Christ Jesus can be known, the one who said He could do nothing except the Father showed Him.
Elizabeth receives Mary, and when the salutation sounds in her ears, the babe leaps in her womb and Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Ghost. Mary received without much outward sensation, while Elizabeth got loud and happy, yet both received the word. The seed in the soul responds when God speaks, whether with tears, joy, quietness, or praise.
Mary’s song magnifies the Lord and remembers mercy from generation to generation, all the way back to Abraham and his seed. The same voice that walked in the garden, spoke creation into existence, healed diseases, and searched the heart is still speaking by His word. God is not finished yet, and Christ has come back in the form of the Holy Ghost to reveal Himself, live in His people, and make them partakers of His grace and mercy.

Key Takeaways
- 1. God had a plan already God was not trying to fix something after Adam fell. The plan was in His mind from the very beginning, before man could remember anything about it. The word makes that hidden plan visible, and the soul begins to see its place in what God already purposed. [28:08]
- 2. The Logos brooded over chaos The earth was without form and void, but the Spirit of God moved upon the waters before the light came. God did not abandon the chaos, He brooded over it until it could become a habitation place. That same pattern gives meaning to the way God brings order, life, and purpose where nothing looks formed yet. [29:11]
- 3. The second Adam restores fellowship Adam’s fall did not surprise God, and the lamb’s blood pointed forward to a greater sacrifice. Christ came as the second Adam to bring man back into fellowship with God, not merely to improve conduct. Redemption reaches deeper than behavior because it restores the broken communion for which man was first made. [33:16]
- 4. The word awakens the seed Mary received the word quietly, and Elizabeth responded loudly when the name of Jesus sounded in her ears. Different emotional responses did not change the reality that life was being quickened by the same God. The important thing is not the outward sensation, but whether the seed in the soul answers back, “Be it done according to thy word.” [47:09]
- 5. The same voice still speaks The voice that walked in the garden and spoke creation into existence is not silent in the last days. That voice still calls, heals, judges the heart, and makes Christ plain to those who can recognize Him. The believer’s confidence rests in the living God continuing to reveal Himself by His word and Spirit.
