Living Worthy: Embracing God's Love and Eternal Perspective
Summary
Reflecting on the journey of faith and the profound love of God, I am overwhelmed by the grace and blessings that have been poured into my life. Returning to this congregation, I am reminded of the unique spirit and the deep connections we share. My recent experiences have been a testament to God's unending love and His ability to answer prayers, even those unspoken. This season has been one of deepening my understanding of the gospel, seeing God's love from Genesis to Revelation, and realizing how He continually pursues us despite our wanderings.
In my personal life, there have been both challenges and blessings. After a miscarriage, we are now expecting another child, and we are also exploring adoption. Our move to San Francisco, a place not known for its Christian community, has been a step of faith, driven by a desire to depend on God and honor my family commitments. This transition has been a reminder of the importance of living a life that reflects the gospel's worth.
The story of Dennis, a former member of our church diagnosed with ALS, serves as a powerful reminder of the transient nature of life and the importance of living with an eternal perspective. His unwavering faith in the face of adversity is a testament to the peace and joy that comes from a deep relationship with Jesus.
The passage from Philippians 1:27-28 challenges us to live lives worthy of the gospel. It calls us to evaluate whether our lives reflect the truth we profess to believe. This involves a radical transformation, where our actions align with our faith, and we live with the urgency and joy that comes from knowing God.
My travels to Asia have shown me the depth of faith in places where being a Christian comes with significant sacrifice. The believers there live in a manner that truly reflects the gospel's worth, challenging me to strive for the same. This journey has reinforced the need to let go of earthly attachments and live with open hands, ready to follow wherever the Spirit leads.

Devotional
Day 1: God's Love is Unfathomable and Ever-Present
Reflecting on the journey of faith, one can be overwhelmed by the grace and blessings that God pours into our lives. His love is constant and answers prayers even before they are voiced. This love invites believers to live in awe and gratitude, recognizing His hand in every aspect of life. The profound love of God is evident from Genesis to Revelation, showcasing His relentless pursuit of humanity despite their wanderings. This understanding calls for a life lived in response to such overwhelming love, acknowledging His presence in both challenges and blessings. [02:23]
Psalm 36:5-7 (ESV): "Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord. How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings."
Reflection: In what ways can you intentionally recognize and express gratitude for God's love in your daily life today?
Day 2: Life's Transience Calls for an Eternal Perspective
Life is fleeting, and this truth challenges individuals to live with an eternal perspective. The story of Dennis, a former church member diagnosed with ALS, serves as a poignant reminder of the transient nature of life. His unwavering faith in the face of adversity exemplifies the peace and joy that come from a deep relationship with Jesus. This perspective urges believers to prioritize what truly matters in light of the gospel, aligning their actions with the reality of eternity. [16:18]
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV): "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you can shift your focus from temporary concerns to eternal values today?
Day 3: Aligning Actions with Beliefs
Living a life worthy of the gospel involves aligning one's actions with their beliefs. This requires constant evaluation and a willingness to make changes that reflect one's faith. The passage from Philippians 1:27-28 challenges believers to live lives that reflect the truth they profess to believe. This involves a radical transformation, where actions align with faith, and life is lived with the urgency and joy that comes from knowing God. [19:00]
James 1:22-25 (ESV): "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing."
Reflection: Identify one specific action you can take today to better align your life with the beliefs you hold dear.
Day 4: Lessons in Faith and Sacrifice from the Global Church
The global church offers profound lessons in faith and sacrifice. Believers in places of persecution live with a commitment that challenges others to deepen their own faith and live with similar devotion. Travels to Asia reveal the depth of faith in places where being a Christian comes with significant sacrifice. This journey reinforces the need to let go of earthly attachments and live with open hands, ready to follow wherever the Spirit leads. [27:24]
Hebrews 13:3 (ESV): "Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body."
Reflection: How can you support and learn from the global church today, especially those facing persecution for their faith?
Day 5: Transformation by the Holy Spirit
True transformation comes from the Holy Spirit, shifting focus from oneself to God and others. This change is a testament to the Spirit's work in believers' lives, leading them to live for God's glory. The journey of faith involves letting go of earthly attachments and living with open hands, ready to follow wherever the Spirit leads. This transformation is marked by a life lived in response to God's overwhelming love and grace. [47:23]
Galatians 5:22-25 (ESV): "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to invite the Holy Spirit to bring about transformation today?
