In the last days, God promises to establish His house above all others, drawing people from every nation to Himself. This vision, first given to Micah, points to a time when the church becomes a beacon for all who seek truth, hope, and salvation. The church is not about our comfort or preferences, but about the gospel going out and people streaming to Jesus, lifted high for all to see. As we live in these last days, our greatest purpose is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love others as He has loved us. Let us remember that God’s plan is simple: believe in Jesus, receive His salvation, and be part of His mission to reach the world. [01:18:33]
Micah 4:1-2 (ESV)
It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Reflection: What is one way you can help someone in your community “stream” toward God’s house this week—whether by invitation, encouragement, or sharing your faith story?
God promises a day when He will bring true peace, justice, security, and rest to His people—a peace that goes beyond the absence of conflict and brings reconciliation with God Himself. While we still live in a world marked by violence, fear, and division, we are called to be peacemakers and to trust that God’s word will be fulfilled. Even as we wait for the day when swords are beaten into plowshares and fear is banished, we can experience a foretaste of His peace by living differently from the world, walking in faith, grace, and love. Let this hope anchor you when the world feels chaotic, knowing that God’s promise is certain and His peace is coming. [01:27:36]
Micah 4:3-4 (ESV)
He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide disputes for strong nations far away; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore; but they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.
Reflection: Where do you most need to trust God’s promise of peace in your life today, and how can you act as a peacemaker in that situation?
As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the name of the Lord our God, not in the ways of false gods, idols, or worldly ideologies. Our allegiance is to Jesus alone, and our lives should reflect His character and love. This means examining our priorities, beliefs, and actions to ensure they align with God’s Word, not with the shifting values of culture or personal gain. Bearing the name of Christ is a privilege and a responsibility—others should see Jesus in us, not perfection, but a growing resemblance to our Savior. Let us be distinguished by our faithfulness to Him above all else. [01:34:36]
Micah 4:5 (ESV)
For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you are tempted to follow the world’s ways instead of God’s, and what step can you take today to realign your walk with Christ?
There is a day coming when God will fully restore all that is broken, gathering the weak, the wounded, the outcast, and making them strong in His presence. This hope is not just for the future but shapes how we live now, as we become a glimmer of that coming restoration to the world around us. Even as we experience pain, loss, or struggle, we can look forward to the new heaven, new earth, and new Jerusalem, where every tear will be wiped away and all things made new. Until that day, we are called to represent this hope, to be the people who point others to the promise of God’s ultimate restoration. [01:39:09]
Micah 4:6-7 (ESV)
“In that day,” declares the Lord, “I will assemble the lame and gather those who have been driven away and those whom I have afflicted; and the lame I will make the remnant, and those who were cast off, a strong nation; and the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion from this time forth and forevermore.”
Reflection: Who in your life needs to hear the hope of God’s restoration, and how can you encourage them with this promise today?
To walk in hope during these last days, we are called to seek God’s ways, live in His peace, bear His name well, and hold fast to His promises. Seeking God means pursuing a relationship with Him, desiring to know and follow His will. Living in His peace means being right with God through Christ, even when circumstances are hard. Bearing His name means representing Jesus faithfully in all we do, and hoping in His promise means looking forward to the day when all things are made new. If you find yourself falling short, remember that repentance and restoration are always available—God’s grace is sufficient, and He invites you to walk in hope today. [01:41:45]
Philippians 3:20-21 (ESV)
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Reflection: Which of these four—seeking His ways, living in His peace, bearing His name, or hoping in His promise—do you most need to grow in right now, and what is one practical step you can take this week to do so?
Today’s gathering was a celebration of God’s faithfulness and a call to live with hope and purpose in these “last days.” We began by welcoming new faces, blessing our children and students for the school year, and recognizing the many ways our church family serves one another—from fellowship meals to special needs ministry. These moments remind us that the church is not just a building or a program, but a living, breathing community where God’s presence is experienced and His love is made tangible.
Turning to Micah 4:1-8, we explored the prophet’s vision of a future where God’s kingdom is fully established—a time when all nations stream to the Lord, peace replaces conflict, and every person finds security and rest. Micah’s words, though spoken in a time of national crisis and spiritual decline, point us to the hope that is ours in Christ. The “last days” began with Jesus’ first coming and continue until His return. In this in-between time, we are called to be a people who seek God’s ways, live in His peace, walk in His name, and hold fast to His promises.
The peace God promises is not merely the absence of conflict, but reconciliation with Him—a peace that surpasses understanding and sustains us through the brokenness of this world. While we await the day when all things are made new, we are to be a foretaste of that coming kingdom: a people marked by love, unity, and hope. We are reminded that our identity is found in Christ alone, not in our achievements, ideologies, or possessions. Our calling is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love others as He has loved us.
As we look forward to the ultimate restoration—when every wrong is made right, every tear wiped away, and God’s reign is fully realized—we are invited to participate in His mission now. This means sharing the gospel, making disciples, and living as a community that reflects the character of Jesus. Whether through acts of service, generosity, or simply bearing His name well in our daily lives, we are the glimmer of hope that points the world to the glory that is yet to come.
Micah 4:1-8 (ESV) —
> 1 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it,
> 2 and many nations shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
> 3 He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide disputes for strong nations far away; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore;
> 4 but they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken.
> 5 For all the peoples walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.
> 6 In that day, declares the LORD, I will assemble the lame and gather those who have been driven away and those whom I have afflicted;
> 7 and the lame I will make the remnant, and those who were cast off, a strong nation; and the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion from this time forth and forevermore.
> 8 And you, O tower of the flock, hill of the daughter of Zion, to you shall it come, the former dominion shall come, kingship for the daughter of Jerusalem.
But there's so much in our world that's chaotic. Some of it's self -induced by us. Some of it's by our own ideologies and maybe even our sometimes our legalistic thinking. And sometimes we have a lot of strife we have to deal with. I just want to encourage you as we talk here in a moment about the last days that we remember that this is family. That there should be no division among us. There should be no strife among us. And we should be of one accord and one mind and one faith and one Lord and one baptism. That's God's call for us. The sense of oneness. Not by race. Not by gender. Not by economic status or any of those things. And that's not picking on America's stuff. That's good that we do those things. That's God's standards. There is no Hebrew. There is no Greek. There is no free. There is no slave. There is no man. There is no woman. There's all Christ. We're all one in Christ. [01:05:53]
Nothing that we do here on earth, it's pale in comparison to what God has for us. Let's keep that focus as we live our lives, that we live in such a way that we bring a little bit more of the kingdom of God of heaven here on earth. And by the way, I think Jesus taught us to pray that way, so guess what we're going to do? [01:08:28]
Hope in these last days that we live in. Man, can we all use a little hope? I'm not talking about hope yang. I'm talking, can we all use a little real hope, right? Can we all use a little hope? We can. And you know, how do we do that? We walk with God in this broken world. The world's broken. It's not our job to fix it, by the way. Did you know that? By the way, whatever Jesus did, he said it's finished. So the works that he did has completed whatever brokenness we have and his work can make it right. [01:09:52]
The peace that God's talking about is peace with God. We're reconciled to God. That's the peace of God. The peace that transcends all understanding is the fact, no matter how fallen we are and how bad this world is, we can be right with God. Micah's given us a little bit of a foretaste of that in this text. [01:15:10]
Some of us that follow false ideologies or false doctrines, that's following a false God. That's for why we must be very serious that we make sure that we follow the teachings and truth of God from his word so that we don't follow a false God, but we follow the one true God. And it says that we will be his people forever and we will follow him and walk with him forever and ever. If forever is not long enough, God adds ever. [01:16:26]
Church is not about our comfort. Church is about the gospel going out and drawing people near to him. It's not about maybe what our little pet peeves are or what color the carpet is or what we do here or that. It's about how are we advancing God's kingdom. [01:17:59]
It's so simple there is no circumcised or uncircumcised there's only christ there is no other thing that you can add to the gospel it is simple will you believe that jesus saves it's that simple it's not what translation of bible you read from it's not about do we have sacraments ordinances it's not about how good i am it's about what christ has done for us. [01:19:43]
The greatest purpose for you is to love him back man when we miss this we miss everything there's one thing that god has commanded you through jesus christ is that you love god with all your heart all your mind all your soul all your strength period we could put exclamation mark it's not a question mark that is what's required of you and if you love god then what should you do love others love them like jesus but we've got to love god the love we have for god comes first. [01:20:44]
You cannot earn god's love it's not about what ritual we do it's not about what behavior you do all those things doing more and by it's important that you live a good life right are you if you christ is in you you should be changing but the whole point here is that god loves you died for you and has a plan for you and people should want to stream to that. [01:24:02]
The house of the Lord, simply I mean, I believe that is the church. We are the house of the Lord today. And isn't that cool? We sang that song and Ben had no idea I was going to preach on this. You're in the house of the Lord right now. This is the place that we teach his ways. This is the place where the word of God goes out. This is the place where the gospel is lifted up so that we can be right with God. That is the house of the Lord. [01:24:54]
The greatest promise God had ever made to you is I am with you always. Jesus is with you. In these last days, we can walk with hope because Christ has promised he'll be with us. His presence should be sufficient for all of us. His word goes out. That's the purpose of the church. [01:25:49]
His kingdom ushers in a people, which is us, that should be different than the world. We once walked in that darkness, but now we walk in the marvelous light of Jesus. Not a religion. Not a bunch of rules. But by faith and grace and mercy and love, Jesus turns the world upside down. [01:26:27]
But we as Christians should know there's a peace, there's a rest, there's a security that's beyond this world. It should help us here and now when things don't go right. So God will bring his peace. Listen, he will settle disputes. Could you imagine? I wish Jesus would show up at a business meeting sometimes. There should not be disputes. [01:28:02]
True peace is not just the absence of war, though, or conflict. I want you to hear this. Sometimes we need conflict to bring peace. But God never wants that if we can avoid it. So I wanna encourage us even today to know that, yes, we need to stand up. I'm not asking you to be a pacifist. But we need to make sure we're always pursuing peace. [01:29:27]
The thing that distinguishes us as Christians should be Jesus. If people don't see Jesus in you, you've got a problem, because you bear his name, because you should be extinguished by the fact that you are a follower of Jesus Christ. Can people see Jesus in you? Not perfection, but can they begin to see this guy? [01:33:27]
Ideologies can easily become idols if we're not careful. Make sure that we walk in allegiance with him and him alone, that God is God alone. I think somewhere in the commandments he says that. Amen? We'll have no other gods before me. And if we bear his name, we need to take that seriously. [01:35:02]
And until then, we're the glimmer of that hope. You and me. We better represent it well. Amen? We are that glimmer of what is yet to come. We are yet that glimmer as the church, the ones that take the word to the end of the world, to all nations, so that everybody might experience this glory someday. [01:39:24]
The Lord will reign forever. Whether somebody believes it or not, he reigns. He reigns. He reigns now, and he will reign then. And he will reign for all of eternity. I pray now that our job is to seek him and his ways. We are to live in his peace. We are to walk in his name, and we are to hope in his promise. [01:40:06]
If you seek, he says you'll find. That's the promise of scripture. If you seek God, he's not like, no, I'm not good enough for you. This is why I'm not a Calvinist. No, if you seek him, you'll find him. He promises that in his word. Will you seek him? [01:40:57]
Will you walk by his name? Will you bear the name of Christ and bear it well? Do you represent his name? If you do not represent him well, don't tell people you're a Christian. Can I say that again? If you don't represent him well, don't tell others you're a Christian. Or if you are struggling and you have people around you that understand that, it's okay to say, hey, God's not done with me yet. But don't use that as an excuse to stay where you're at. Amen? [01:41:36]
The promise of what yet to come, this new heaven, this new earth, this new Jerusalem, a day where all things that are wrong will be made right. Something only God can do. By the way, that's not my plan. That's God's plan. You know, and a lot of us go like, well, why did he create sin? And why would he let this happen? And why does he let that happen? I don't know. He's God. And I don't have it all figured out. But I know in all the options of how God could have created, he chose this. He chose this plan. He chose salvation. He chose for you, I hope, to receive Christ into your life and to walk worthy of his name. [01:42:17]
