“The gospel is not a ticket out of here. It's not just an escape. This is where the gospel goes. Heaven and earth become one place. God's dwelling is among man in the new Jerusalem. That Jerusalem that Nehemiah caught a glimpse of, that he was trying to step in line with what God was planning on doing. The Jerusalem that's yet to come is what we are to live for. The city that Jesus will inaugurate is what we are to live for. What this means is that the gospel, not my comfort, not my convenience, but the gospel, because it is my future, dictates my present. If I am in Christ, this is where I'm going. Therefore, the gospel directly dictates what I do in here and now.”

“It's not a ticket out of here. It's not an escape. It's that Jesus is going to make a new heaven and a new earth. That's the vision that we're working from. That the resurrection is going to change everything and that something of the resurrection is possible in the here and now. We can grasp something of that future and pull it into our lives into the here and now. Does that make sense?”

“See, the gospel, one thing that I think we we kinda do wrong somewhat subtly, somewhat maybe not so subtly, is we view the gospel as a ticket and escape out of here. That Jesus died so that way when when I die, I get to get out of here. That's not what the gospel is about. The gospel is much bigger and grander than that. The gospel is that Jesus died and he rose again. The resurrection and he's ushered in something of that resurrection into our lives here and today. But he will return and he will bring that resurrection in the fullest sense to all of creation. That's the scope of the gospel.”
