He's raising the bar. He's taken us to a new level of what sacrifice is. It's not the outward show, the slaughtering of animals anymore. It's not that. It's a whole new level. He's restoring what God wanted for worship, for sacrifice. You see, when you start doing outward things, it doesn't take very long for your heart to calcify. It didn't take very long for people to just go through the motions of sacrificing the animals, trying to do it right, all the rest of it, so intent to the details, that they forgot the reason for it. But God, the one true God, what does he do? He has to get through to pagan people. And so what does he do? He comes down to their level of understanding. He employs what they were used to, but he transforms this whole idea of sacrifice. He revamped it. For now, it's like, God, is saying, for now, as you understand the seriousness of falling out of favor with God, I'm going to provide for you a way to enter into his pleasure. The sacrifice of the innocent lamb to Aton was a critical act of obedience at that time, to make up for any acts of disobedience. [00:47:31] (41 seconds)  #GodTransformsSacrifice

The wages of going down the wrong path is a multifaceted death. Think of it that way. It's the death of an abundant life. It's the death of the best that God has for you. It can be the death of relationships, the death of your physical well-being, all the rest of it. It's a multifaceted death. And look how messed up the world is when it is deviated from God's best. [00:48:31] (28 seconds)  #TheCostOfWrongPaths

And I want to make this very clear. The gospel is a story of love. It's not a story of sin. And as long as you park on the idea that, that it's all about sin you've missed the boat the gospel is not this dark ever hovering cloud of you're not good enough you may as well just go to hell we really need to change our minds about that change of mind what's another word for change of mind repent that's literally what the greek word means it means to change your mind we need to change our minds about who god is about whether there are other gods on this planet we need to change our minds about our existence and the purpose of life i have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. [00:49:20] (53 seconds)  #GospelIsLoveNotSin

And so Paul explains why the gospel was needed in the first place romans chapter one and two it's very dark as he describes the depravity of humanity but he has to get to the core he has to be honest listen the gospel is needed because there was a severe rebellion against god mankind has missed the mark some of them have missed it some of you have missed it more than others but you know what you miss it by an inch you miss it by a mile it doesn't matter there's no judgment we are powerless to live the god best life that we have but then jesus showed up god in the flesh he showed up on this planet. [00:53:58] (42 seconds)  #GospelNeededForRebellion

Truth is sin is no longer our master we have a better master you have Jesus as your lord and he loves you so dearly warts and all he pours his grace his power his motivation his inspiration into us by his holy spirit and let me tell you he believes in you each one of you i don't care where you are where you were right now in this room even if you're not even a believer he cares so much for you sin is not your master but neither is the law your master anymore either that's really important for those of us who've been christians all our lives legalism can be our master it turns god into a bunch of do's and don'ts and hate for those who don't and do think about that one. [00:55:34] (50 seconds)  #JesusNotMasterSin

So the gospel is not a sin story. It is a love story for God so loved each one of us. Therefore, what should we do? Present our bodies as a living sacrifice. How can we do anything else but respond? You are worthy. We often sing. What does that mean? It means our response is to declare you deserve the best that we can give you. And if the best that you can give him is the singing for 15 minutes a week, on a Sunday morning, then you need to get these few verses into your heart. How can we do anything but respond with love to him? [00:57:40] (39 seconds)  #LivingSacrificeResponse

The gospel, it's for the inconsistent, the unsteady disciples whose cheese is falling off their cracker. It is for earthen vessels who shuffle along on feet of clay. It is for the bent and the bruised who feel that their lives are a grave disappointment [00:59:20] (17 seconds)  #GospelForTheBroken
