Living in Readiness: Embracing God's Sovereignty and Service
Summary
In today's gathering, we focused on the profound truth of God's sovereignty and the role of the church in the unfolding of end times. We began by emphasizing the importance of community and service, particularly in the children's ministry, as a means of nurturing future generations in faith. This aligns with the biblical mandate to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6). We also highlighted upcoming events, such as the Vision Conference and VBS training, which are opportunities for deeper engagement and preparation within our church community.
Our main discussion centered on the concept of the "man of lawlessness," as described in 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8. This figure, often associated with the Antichrist, represents the ultimate embodiment of evil that will be revealed in the end times. We explored how the current restraint of evil is maintained by the presence of the Holy Spirit and the church. The church, filled with the Holy Spirit, stands as a barrier against the full manifestation of evil until the appointed time when God will allow these events to unfold.
We delved into the mystery of lawlessness, which is already at work in the world, and how it will culminate in the revelation of the Antichrist. This period will be marked by unprecedented evil, but it will also be a time when Jesus will ultimately triumph, destroying the Antichrist with the breath of His mouth, symbolizing the power of His Word.
In light of these truths, we are called to live in readiness for Christ's return, ensuring our lives reflect His righteousness. This involves a continual process of repentance and alignment with God's will, as we anticipate the glorious appearing of our Savior. We concluded with an invitation for those who have not yet committed their lives to Christ to do so, and for believers to reaffirm their dedication to living faithfully in these uncertain times.

Day 1: Nurturing Faith in Future Generations
The church community plays a vital role in nurturing faith in future generations. Engaging in ministries, such as children's ministry, is a practical way to fulfill the biblical mandate of training up a child in the way they should go. This involves creating an environment where children can learn about God's love and truth, and where they can see faith in action through the lives of those around them. By investing in the spiritual growth of children, the church ensures that the next generation is equipped to carry on the faith and live out God's purposes in their lives. [00:01]
"Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children." (Deuteronomy 4:9, ESV)
Reflection: How can you actively participate in nurturing the faith of the younger generation in your community this week?
Day 2: The Church as a Restraint Against Evil
The presence of the Holy Spirit and the church acts as a restraint against the full manifestation of evil in the world. This divine restraint will be lifted in the end times, leading to the revelation of the Antichrist. The church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, serves as a beacon of light in a world that is often overshadowed by darkness. It is through the church's prayers, actions, and witness that the power of evil is held back, allowing God's purposes to unfold according to His perfect timing. [01:10:57]
"For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way." (2 Thessalonians 2:7, ESV)
Reflection: In what ways can you contribute to the church's role as a restraint against evil in your community?
Day 3: The Unfolding Mystery of Lawlessness
The spirit of lawlessness is already at work, preparing the way for the Antichrist. This serves as a reminder of the ongoing spiritual battle and the need for vigilance and faithfulness in our walk with Christ. As believers, we are called to be aware of the signs of the times and to stand firm in our faith, knowing that the ultimate victory belongs to Jesus. This awareness should lead us to a deeper commitment to prayer, study of the Word, and living out our faith in tangible ways. [01:21:44]
"Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction." (2 Thessalonians 2:3, ESV)
Reflection: How can you remain vigilant and faithful in your spiritual walk amidst the increasing lawlessness in the world?
Day 4: The Power and Authority of God's Word
Jesus will ultimately defeat the Antichrist with the breath of His mouth, symbolizing the power and authority of God's Word. This underscores the importance of grounding our lives in Scripture and trusting in God's ultimate victory. The Word of God is not only a source of comfort and guidance but also a powerful weapon against the forces of darkness. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we align ourselves with God's truth and equip ourselves to stand firm in the face of spiritual challenges. [01:30:32]
"And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming." (2 Thessalonians 2:8, ESV)
Reflection: How can you deepen your engagement with God's Word to experience its power and authority in your life?
Day 5: Living in Readiness for Christ's Return
We are called to live in readiness for Christ's return, ensuring our lives reflect His righteousness. This involves a continual process of repentance and alignment with God's will, as we anticipate the glorious appearing of our Savior. Living in readiness means being intentional about our spiritual growth and being prepared to meet Jesus at any moment. It is a call to live with purpose, integrity, and a heart that is fully devoted to God. [01:32:55]
"Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming." (Matthew 24:42, ESV)
Reflection: What steps can you take today to ensure that your life reflects readiness for Christ's return?
Quotes
Train up a child in the way that he should go Even when he is old And he will not depart from it Proverbs 22 6 May we always remember that text And while I'm speaking to that That's why you should serve in the children's ministry Amen Alright so if you're not serving there Make sure you know that Make sure that it takes a family It takes a family of God To raise up someone to follow Jesus Working with the parents and doing that So make sure that we're faithful to those type of things. [00:23:32]
The presence of the Holy Spirit and the church acts as a restraint against the full manifestation of evil in the world. This divine restraint will be lifted in the end times, leading to the revelation of the Antichrist. The spirit of lawlessness is already at work, preparing the way for the Antichrist. This serves as a reminder of the ongoing spiritual battle and the need for vigilance and faithfulness in our walk with Christ. [01:05:00]
The mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one now restraining will do so until he is out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, and the Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of his mouth, and will bring him to nothing at the appearance of his coming. May God add a blessing to his holy word. [01:05:17]
The Holy Spirit and the church together restrain Satan. We are so messed up, but yet we still stand between him and the end times. Because what's going to happen is someday the church will be raptured. So let's look at these two things a little bit in detail here. He will be revealed in his time. The time this evil one will be revealed will only be once the church is out of the way and the Holy Spirit has completed his task. [01:10:16]
The Holy Spirit's task is a lot of things. I'm going to go into the main one that I think once that ends, that's when he is removed. Because, by the way, the Holy Spirit does not like Satan. The Holy Spirit is God's Spirit. So the Holy Spirit is not like going to disappear and cease to exist. That's not what it's talking about. But he will remove himself from the task he's had. [01:11:30]
The Word of God is living, effective, and sharper than any double-edged sword. The Word of God, listen, for you and me, it makes us better. For someone that's opposed to God, it's a death. The Word of God. Satan can't stand against the Word of God. It's too powerful for Him. In Revelation 1:16, this is a beautiful picture. John sees a vision of what Jesus looks like. [01:30:32]
The church is never mentioned after that. Why? We're gone. Thank you, Billy. Somebody's reading and knows Revelation. We're gone. The rapture has happened. The bride's never mentioned again until we sit at the table. We'll sit at the table again with Jesus, where he will eat with all of people and usher in the fullness of time and eternity with us at the lamb's feast, the wedding feast. [01:24:40]
The Holy Spirit's doing that in us still. Is he still convicting us? Is he still bringing us to righteousness? Is he still bringing his judgment to bear? Yes, he is on the world, but also I'd say within us. That's a good thing. Unleash yourself, Holy Spirit. Amen. It's what we want. And then we want to be the true church so that we're ready when the Lord comes back. [01:17:18]
The lawlessness one was already at work. Even now, the spirit of lawlessness and the spirit of the antichrist has come. Listen to what John says, 1 John 2, 18. Children, it is the last hour. Now listen, when's John writing this? First century. He's telling you already it's the last hour. So what is the last hour? We always think, oh, that means it's the final thing. The last hour is the church age. [01:22:42]
The Word of God has been given to us, and we need to always fall back on the Word of God and remember. Think of this table up here. What's it say? Go ahead. What's it say? Why? Do this in remembrance, right, of me. God wants us to remember his promises. God wants us to remember his character. God, every time we take the Lord's Supper, remember, I died for a reason, to set you free from the sinful world. [01:07:24]
We should know and be able to see things that are evil. We should know and see some of these things and say, that's a birthing pain. This uncertainty, this calamity, this war, there will always be wars. How the Middle East treats Israel, all these things are part of prophecy. We should be able to see these things and know that the time is coming. [01:27:42]
Righteousness is where I have allowed Christ to impute his righteousness upon me because I've received him as my Lord and Savior. If you have not done that today, then you will be part of the man doomed for destruction. Yeah, that's Hellfire and Brimstone, I know. I'm not doing this to scare you. I'm doing this to make you really evaluate. Do you want to be on the winning team or not? [01:32:55]
