Living Hope: Transforming Lives Through Christ's Gospel
Sermon Summary
In this message, the focus is on the transformative power of the hope found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. This hope is not just a distant promise but a living reality that should shape our lives daily. The essence of our Christian journey is to prepare for the coming of the Lord, a preparation that involves a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This relationship is not merely intellectual but experiential, requiring us to live out the life of Christ within us. The hope we have is a living hope, one that anticipates the transformation of our bodies and the ultimate redemption that comes with Christ's return.
The message challenges us to shift our focus from merely desiring to escape to heaven to inviting heaven into our lives here and now. This involves allowing Jesus to reign in our hearts, choosing Him over the flesh, and living in a way that reflects His life and love. The story of Judas Iscariot serves as a cautionary tale, illustrating that proximity to Jesus and religious activity are not substitutes for genuine surrender and transformation. Judas had every opportunity to choose Jesus but allowed the devil to take hold because he did not let Christ reign in his heart.
The call is to live in the Spirit, to let Jesus work out His salvation in us, and to be vigilant against the subtle encroachments of the flesh. This vigilance is not just about avoiding sin but actively choosing Jesus in every moment, allowing His life to be manifested in us. The message emphasizes the importance of being watchful and ready for Christ's return, living in a way that reflects the hope of the gospel and the reality of Christ's reign in our lives.
Key Takeaways
1. The hope of the gospel is a living hope that transforms our present reality, not just a future promise. It calls us to live in anticipation of Christ's return, allowing His life to be manifested in us daily. This hope is realized as we let Jesus reign in our hearts, choosing Him over the desires of the flesh. [01:51]
2. Our Christian journey is about inviting heaven into our lives now, not just waiting to escape to heaven. This involves a daily surrender to Jesus, allowing Him to transform us and prepare us for His coming. The transformation begins with a personal, experiential relationship with Christ, where He becomes our life and hope. [02:29]
3. The story of Judas Iscariot serves as a warning that religious activity and proximity to Jesus are not enough. True transformation requires allowing Jesus to reign in our hearts, choosing Him over the flesh, and living in a way that reflects His life and love. [07:06]
4. Living in the Spirit means actively choosing Jesus in every moment, allowing His life to be manifested in us. This involves being vigilant against the subtle encroachments of the flesh and letting Jesus work out His salvation in us. [08:25]

Sermon Clips
be not moved away from the hope of the gospel which was preached to every creature which is under heaven when God spoke to us by his son he didn't speak death but he spoke life himself took part of flesh and blood that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death that is the devil and deliver them who all their lifetime were subject to bondage because of the fear of death [00:00:00]
we're delivered from that fear of death when we receive the hope of the gospel and the Bible says we should not be moved away from the hope of the gospel I was making mention of an article in Time magazine the other day where church men of different churches and of great renown were expressing themselves about the conditions in the world and what placed the church held and the preaching of the gospel they said very nice things but all of them missed the main thing [00:00:38]
every Christians job and responsibility is to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ this is life eternal that they might know be the only true God and Jesus Christ whom dauer sent but you cannot know Jesus Christ whom he has sent until you experience him until you live him praise God until he takes over and the hope we have been begotten again unto a living hope and that hope is not realized until this body has been changed transformed [00:01:20]
nobody has a right to want to go to heaven that would be easy just to run off to heaven and and go flippity-flop with your golden wings that's not the whole that is not ever here for we don't know when we go to heaven we ought to be interested in heaven coming to us that's what we're saved for we're begotten again unto a Living Hope and it may be it may be that my body will be laid in the grave but if it is it will be so by the appointment of heaven [00:02:16]
but in the meantime that is the goal of my life and that is the goal that God Almighty sets for me and that's what God Almighty is working for moment by moment to present me perfect to make me ready for that glorious moment when in a moment or in the twinkling of an eye I shall be changed and when is that moment going to be I ought to expect it right now I ought to be looking unto them that look for him [00:03:03]
oh to be looking for him will fill my whole body with life that alone will do something for my body that will save me from Ulster's and my stomach as miss Shelton used to say she suffered from bolsters it will save you from a lot of trouble praise God and it'll it'll make you choose Jesus instead of the flesh how many people are sick and did because as soon as the devil pokes them in the ribs they go around looking for sympathy [00:03:41]
telling everybody how it aches and all what faith they have and how they trust in the Lord just don't praise the Lord beloved we have a Living Hope because we have a living right praise God and he has conquered death thank God have got nothing to do with it nothing to do with the works of death except to overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony thank God is not loving my life which is crucified with Christ even unto death [00:04:15]
but what is our hope if you be not moved away from the hope of the gospel why my hope is the coming of Jesus Christ to redeem his purchase possession my body has been bought for that very purpose that it might be translated that it might be changed that it might be made like unto his glorious body praise the Lord and the Bible tells us what my program is is to count everything but refuse for that one thing the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus [00:04:55]
is the victory of Calvary in my body hallelujah and how is that victory going to be enacted how is it going to be that I'm going to be ready for the coming of the Lord it's when now step by step I let him work out in me to will and to do step by step I make my choice step by step and day by day and hour by hour I let Jesus Christ live out his old life within me if he doesn't work in me this great salvation I will not be safe [00:05:36]
he's got to do it that's what he came to do that's why he said this is the work of God that you believe on Him whom he has sent God has sent him is that I'll come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also is he with you tell me has he come to you oh yes he has his tyst you with the holy ghost sure but whom do you choose choose ye this day whom ye will serve Oh have you chosen him to be your king to reign within you [00:06:14]
we read in the Bible of a very strange meeting there was Judas Iscariot and I think lots of people do him a lot of wrong they think he was a scalawag he wasn't he was a disciple he was an apostle he sat down with the other disciples he was a minister he cast out demons he healed the sick he was close to Jesus he walked with Jesus Christ for three and a half years he was said I'm preaching the gospel but there came a time when Satan made a bid for him [00:06:58]
the devil wanted to get in and Jesus was there and Jesus made a bid for him the Bible says in that thirteenth chapter of John he loved them unto the end and he had warned Judas called him Judas you get into a dump you allow that dump to rain in you what do I do when I allow my dumps and my shadows and my anger and my pride and my flesh to get the best of me why crucify Jesus Christ as their Jesus get away from me I don't want you I want the hell [00:07:33]
