Day 1: A Bush That Burns But Is Not Consumed

Moses encounters the impossible—a flaming desert shrub that defies nature. This unquenchable fire becomes God’s invitation to holy ground, a place where human logic yields to divine purpose. The bush’s persistence mirrors God’s eternal nature, demanding Moses’ full attention and surrender. What seems ordinary becomes sacred when God speaks through it. Our lives, too, become holy spaces when we recognize God’s presence burning within us. [42:26]

“And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, ‘I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.’ When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ Then he said, ‘Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’”

Day 2: “As Long As God Is Awake, I Can Sleep”

A child’s simple trust transforms fear into rest. When darkness threatens, she clings to the moon as proof of God’s wakeful care. Her faith reassures her anxious mother, modeling how surrender dismantles worry. Trust is not passive resignation but active reliance on God’s unceasing vigilance. Like Moses’ mother releasing her son to the river, we find peace when we anchor our fears in God’s sovereignty. [36:48]

Day 3: Forty Years in the Palace, Forty Years in the Desert

Moses’ eighty years of preparation seem wasted—until God ignites his calling. Egyptian education and desert isolation become tools for liberation. Seasons of waiting are not detours but divine apprenticeships. God uses Pharaoh’s classrooms and wilderness obscurity to forge a leader. Our own delays and detours may be God’s way of equipping us for holy work. [39:09]

“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.”

Day 4: Holy Ground Is Wherever God’s People Stand

The burning bush was holy not because of its location, but because God inhabited it. Moses’ sandals—symbols of earthly journeys—are removed to acknowledge sacred presence. For believers, every step becomes holy ground when Christ dwells within. Aisles, offices, and kitchens become sanctuaries when we carry God’s presence. Holiness is less about place than posture. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Day 5: Living Backward—Eternity Reshapes Today

Moses traded Pharaoh’s palace for eternal reward. When life is viewed through the lens of forever, temporary comforts lose their grip. Like the funeral pastor’s reminder, believers see death as a doorway, not an end. Every act of obedience—whether grand or hidden—gains eternal weight. Our struggles become light when measured against glory. [47:43]

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

Sermon Summary

God’s sovereign plan works through the lives of people who are not always the kind of people anyone would choose to copy. Joseph endured struggle, Jonah ran from God, Saul needed to be changed into Paul, and Moses began life under a sentence of death. God still used each one. God’s hand was already at work when Pharaoh ordered Hebrew baby boys thrown into the Nile, turning a season meant for joy into fear and dread for Israel.

Moses’ mother trusted God with her child when she placed him in the reeds. God moved Pharaoh’s daughter with compassion, gave Moses protection inside Pharaoh’s own household, and even allowed his own mother to care for him in those early years. God worked it all out in a way no human plan could have arranged. Childlike trust rests because God never goes to sleep.

Moses’ life shows God’s patient equipping. God used forty years in Pharaoh’s palace to give Moses learning, writing, and leadership. God used forty years in Midian and the backside of the desert to prepare Moses for leading Israel through that same kind of wilderness. God does not call the equipped. God equips the called. Moses chose to identify with God’s people rather than enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, because Moses knew who he was.

God caught Moses’ attention through a bush that burned but was not consumed. Moses knew desert bushes could burn, but this bush did not burn out. God used what Moses had learned to show him that this was not natural. God’s presence made the ground holy, and God called Moses by name: “Moses, Moses, take off your sandals.”

Holy ground becomes the picture for a changed life in Christ. Christ’s presence in His people means that life cannot be treated as belonging only to self. God calls His people to take off the old shoes of life and walk a holy way, talk a holy way, and live a holy way. Romans 12 calls believers to be living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, because life on earth is temporary and eternity with Christ is what lasts.

God uses free will within His providential plan, sometimes through mighty tasks and sometimes through things that look small. God’s work in a closet, a home, a workplace, a school, a car, or even aisle sixteen in a supermarket can minister to someone and bring them nearer to Him. God’s people are called to consider what gifts He has been building and what He has been training them to do. Wherever Christ is present, that place is holy, and God’s people must govern themselves accordingly.
