Living Fully Surrendered: Pleasing God in Today's World
Devotional
Day 1: The Futility of Worldly Success
Living a life that pleases God requires a deep understanding of the futility of pursuing worldly success at the expense of our souls. The world often tempts us with promises of wealth, power, and recognition, but these are fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying. True fulfillment comes from giving God the maximum out of our lives, not just a portion. Even a small compromise can taint our entire being, leading to regret and spiritual stagnation. By fully surrendering to God, we allow His truth to transform us, leading to a life of purpose and peace. [00:38]
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?" (Matthew 16:26, ESV)
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you are tempted to compromise your spiritual values for worldly success? How can you realign this area with God's purpose today?
Day 2: Victory Through Rest in God
True victory over our enemies, which are often our own fleshly desires, comes from sitting at the right hand of God. This position of rest and authority allows God to make our enemies a footstool for our feet. It is not about conquering others but overcoming the self that hinders spiritual growth. By resting in God's presence, we find the strength to overcome our struggles and live victoriously. This invitation is open to all, regardless of past defeats or struggles, offering a path to spiritual renewal and empowerment. [09:11]
"The Lord says to my Lord: 'Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.'" (Psalm 110:1, ESV)
Reflection: What personal struggle or desire do you need to surrender to God today, trusting Him to give you victory as you rest in His presence?
Day 3: Guarding Against Declining Moral Standards
In a world where moral standards are declining, particularly concerning modesty and purity, vigilance is essential. The pervasive influences of the world can easily lead us astray, especially our young people who face immense pressure to conform. It is crucial to guard our hearts and minds, teaching the next generation to find their identity in Christ. By doing so, we equip them to stand firm in their faith and live in a way that pleases God, despite the challenges they face. [12:16]
"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." (Proverbs 4:23, ESV)
Reflection: How can you actively guard your heart and mind against the influences of the world today? What steps can you take to help a young person in your life do the same?
Day 4: The Role of Parents in Spiritual Formation
Parents have a crucial role in leading their children to know the Father. Our homes should be places where the knowledge of God is imparted through example and teaching, providing a foundation of peace and trust. As parents, we have a limited time to instill these values, and we must seize every opportunity to do so. By living a life of peace and trust in God's sovereignty, we model a faith that is attractive and transformative for our children. [27:03]
"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, ESV)
Reflection: What is one practical way you can demonstrate God's love and truth to your children or young people in your life today?
Day 5: Abiding in God's Word for Strength
The Word of God must be our home, a place we return to daily for strength and guidance. It is through abiding in His Word that we find the power to overcome the temptations and challenges of the world. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we allow God's truth to shape our thoughts, actions, and decisions, leading to a life that is pleasing to Him. This daily practice of returning to God's Word is essential for spiritual growth and resilience. [42:06]
"If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." (John 15:7, ESV)
Reflection: How can you make God's Word a more integral part of your daily routine? What specific steps will you take to ensure you are consistently abiding in His Word?
Sermon Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound question of what it truly means to live a life that is pleasing to God. We began by considering the words of our youngest class, who reminded us of the futility of gaining the world at the expense of our souls. This led us to reflect on the importance of giving God the maximum out of our lives, not just a portion. The challenge is to live without regret, knowing that even a small percentage of our soul given to the world can taint the whole. We must strive to live with the mentality that our lives are fully surrendered to God, seeking His truth and allowing it to transform us.
We also delved into the concept of making our enemies a footstool, as mentioned in Acts 2. This is not about conquering people but overcoming the flesh and the self that often stands in the way of our spiritual growth. The key to victory lies in sitting at the right hand of God, a position of authority and rest, where He promises to make our enemies a footstool for our feet. This invitation is open to all, regardless of past defeats or struggles.
Furthermore, we addressed the pressing issue of the world's declining moral standards, particularly concerning modesty and purity. We were reminded of the importance of guarding our hearts and minds against the pervasive influences of the world. This is especially crucial for our young people, who face immense pressure to conform. We must be vigilant in teaching them to find their identity in Christ and to live in a way that pleases Him.
Finally, we emphasized the role of parents in leading their children to know the Father. Our homes should be places where the knowledge of God is imparted, not just through words but through the example of a life lived in peace and trust in God's sovereignty. As parents, we have a limited time to instill these values, and we must seize every opportunity to do so.

Sermon Clips
I hope that every one of you comes to rlcf, not because you're not looking for how you can get the best out of this world and the best out of heaven, but that you want God to get the best out of your life and that's it. How can I give the maximum to God? [00:01:05]
If I don't give you the maximum amount of my life and I'm still in heaven somehow and I gave you even 99 percent, you live with that regret for all eternity that there's no more time to give that extra one percent that you could have given. [00:02:38]
If one percent of my soul is in the world, all of it is in the world. That's the way it works. Let me give you an example: if you have one drop of poison in a bucket of water, the whole thing is poison. One drop, you can say, well, I've got a million other drops that are not poison. [00:04:14]
There are enemies I see in my flesh. Now, I hope you know our enemies in the New Covenant are not people. It's our flesh, myself. He's my greatest enemy. In fact, he's my only enemy. If I, yourself, is on the cross, even the devil can't be my enemy. [00:05:25]
The reason that your enemies have not been a footstool for your feet is because you haven't been sitting at my right hand. You're sitting somewhere else. You've been afraid of the right hand. Maybe you've been afraid of the throne of grace, but come, there's Mercy, there's Grace. [00:08:56]
I was very grieved in my spirit. Your family, very grieved. The world is passing away. The standards of irreverence, the standards for immodesty, the standards for careless living have gone so bad. I was reminded of when I first came to the United States 30 something years ago. [00:10:54]
I left with a burden for our children and our young people. I just wanted to touch on that briefly because I hope it's your burden as well. I'm sure you see it. I'm sure what I'm saying is not anything new, but you can go to certain places where you could see it right in front of you. [00:12:35]
I believe our goal, why we are rlcf, is because we want to be a pure testimony for Jesus, that Jesus is happy. I thought about that even as I was coming driving into the church meeting this morning. Many churches, what motivates people to go to our church is who's going to be there. [00:16:11]
Do you know God as one who has been from the beginning? That means he wrote a plan for your life. He has planned every day of your life. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega, and you have such a knowledge of him that you're able to lead your family in that rest. [00:21:32]
I have a burden for my children that by the time they leave home, I can say to them, daughter, son, if you've seen me, you've seen the father. I haven't done it perfectly. I haven't done it perfectly, and I might still not do it perfectly, but I've set it as a goal. [00:31:18]
You know what's way better than that? None of us has 100 million to give to our children. You know what you can give them though? A knowledge of the father. You can give them the knowledge of the father. That's Eternal riches. It's more than a billion trillion dollars. [00:33:48]
If your home is the word of God, you will be strong. That's why we have Bible reading plans. That's why we have memory verses. That's why we have book reading plans, so that you will find a home in the word of God. So you don't even have to wait till tomorrow morning. [00:42:06]
