Living as Authentic Disciples: Reflecting Christ's Love
Devotional
Day 1: Living Authentically in Christ
Our lives are the most powerful testimony of Christ's love and transformation. By living authentically in Christ, we naturally draw others to Him. This is not about perfection but about genuine faith that others can see and desire. Living as a testimony means embodying the values and teachings of Jesus in our daily actions and decisions. It is about being transparent in our faith journey, allowing others to witness the changes Christ has made in us. This authenticity can inspire others to seek the same transformation in their own lives. [35:42]
"For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?" (2 Corinthians 2:15-16, ESV)
Reflection: In what specific ways can you live more authentically in Christ today, allowing others to see His work in you?
Day 2: Baptism as a Visible Transformation
Baptism is a public declaration of faith and transformation. It symbolizes a change, much like dyeing fabric, and marks the beginning of a journey of obedience to Christ's commands. This act of obedience is a profound statement of one's commitment to follow Jesus and live according to His teachings. It is a visible sign of an inward change, representing the believer's new identity in Christ. As we reflect on the significance of baptism, we are reminded of the ongoing journey of faith and the call to continually align our lives with Christ's example. [37:02]
"Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:3-4, ESV)
Reflection: How does your baptism influence your daily walk with Christ, and what steps can you take to live out this transformation more fully?
Day 3: Praying for Spiritual Growth
Praying for the growth of God's kingdom is essential. This prayer should stem from a desire to see more people experience the love and transformation that comes from knowing Christ, rather than merely increasing church numbers. True growth is spiritual, involving a deepening relationship with God and an expanding influence of His love in the world. As we pray for growth, we are called to focus on the quality of our faith and the authenticity of our witness, trusting that God will bring about the increase in His time and way. [40:08]
"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ." (Philippians 1:9-10, ESV)
Reflection: What specific areas of your spiritual life need growth, and how can you pray for God's guidance and strength in these areas today?
Day 4: Building Genuine Relationships
Inviting others to church or into a relationship with Christ should be rooted in genuine relationships. People are more likely to respond positively when they feel valued and not like projects. Building authentic connections requires time, effort, and a sincere interest in others' lives. It involves listening, understanding, and sharing life together, creating a space where people feel loved and accepted. As we invest in these relationships, we open doors for meaningful conversations about faith and the opportunity to share the hope we have in Christ. [42:05]
"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." (Romans 12:9-10, ESV)
Reflection: Who in your life can you reach out to today to build a more genuine relationship, and how can you show them Christ's love in a tangible way?
Day 5: Practicing Christ-like Hospitality
Hospitality is a reflection of Christ's acceptance of us. By welcoming others sincerely and meeting their needs, we create an environment where they can experience God's love and grace. Jesus exemplified hospitality through His actions, ensuring that those around Him felt valued and cared for. As His followers, we are called to imitate this example, opening our homes and hearts to others. This practice of hospitality is not just about providing for physical needs but also about offering spiritual encouragement and support, helping others feel at home in the family of God. [45:13]
"Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality." (Romans 12:13, ESV)
Reflection: How can you practice Christ-like hospitality this week, and who can you invite into your home or life to share in the love and grace of God?
Sermon Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound simplicity and responsibility of living a life that reflects Jesus Christ. The essence of discipleship is not found in complex theological debates but in the everyday actions and decisions that demonstrate our faith. The world is watching, and our lives are the testimony that can lead others to Christ. Baptism, as the first public act of obedience, symbolizes a transformation akin to dyeing fabric—a change that is visible and profound. This act of obedience is just the beginning of a journey where we are called to teach others to obey Christ's commands, which primarily focus on our relationships with God and others.
We also delved into the importance of prayer, particularly praying for growth—not just for the survival of the church but for the expansion of God's kingdom. This growth is not merely numerical but spiritual, as it involves inviting others into a relationship with Christ. Inviting others requires genuine relationships, where people feel valued and not like projects. A warm welcome is crucial, as it reflects the acceptance we have received from Christ. This welcome should be sincere and authentic, creating an environment where newcomers feel at home.
Furthermore, we discussed the role of hospitality in the church. Jesus exemplified this through his actions, ensuring that the needs of those around him were met. As followers of Christ, we are called to imitate his example, prioritizing the making of disciples. Evangelism naturally flows from authentic discipleship, as a true follower of Jesus will naturally share their faith. Our primary responsibility is to make disciples who, in turn, make more disciples, perpetuating the cycle of growth and transformation.

A warm welcome very simply just insert a sincere welcome greet the person as you would typically greet anybody it doesn't have to be manufactured it doesn't have to be forced it doesn't have to be magic words it has to be you talking to somebody else I think it's small talk right a lot of you have experienced it I think it's small talk it's uncomfortable for me. [00:48:57]
The people who do ultimately say yes the people who come seeking something from God they need to see an experience a people that have already found it there should be no doubt to somebody who is looking to God for the first time about what that relationship is like because they see it in you what does your life look like do you have that Joy of Abundant Living that Jesus brings. Jesus prayed for the kingdom of God to grow that was his entire message and think about it Jesus has not yet died and rose again we don't have a gospel message per se so Jesus is talking about his father's Kingdom he's talking about what it is to be in relationship with his father he's talking about what a life of seeking his father is going to look like. [00:54:21]
Evangelism is not our primary call it's the first thing all of us are going to think of these are the last words before Jesus leaves Go Make Disciples now here's the catch you make a disciple sharing the gospel El is going to be a natural fruit of it somebody who is a true genuine authentic follower of Jesus is going to share their faith.
