The hope of seeing Jesus changes the way believers live today. Christ’s return is not meant to produce fear, but the kind of anticipation felt when someone deeply loved is finally coming near. Love gets ready. Love stays awake, stands firm, and refuses to treat the coming King like a distant idea.
Holiness begins with belonging. God calls His people out of an old life and into His own character, because He is holy, true, righteous, and completely without darkness. Holiness is not mainly a book of rules. Holiness is being separated from what dishonors God and set apart for what honors Him. The call of God settles whose life this is.
Sin breaks fellowship with God. First John says that anyone claiming fellowship with God while walking in darkness is living a lie, because darkness cannot stay in fellowship with the God who is light. Sin gets a believer out of Jesus’ huddle. The play is being called, God is leading, but a heart holding onto darkness cannot hear clearly what God is saying.
Grace does not give a license to keep sinning. Grace meets repentance, renouncing, forsaking, and turning from sin toward God. Christ bought believers with a price, so body, mind, relationships, sexuality, money, future, and private life belong to Him. Devotion cannot mean giving Jesus most days while reserving certain spaces for old loves and old ways.
Purification requires cooperation with God. Second Corinthians calls believers to remove everything that contaminates body and spirit because they are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Holiness grows through a thousand daily decisions: what gets watched, clicked, laughed at, thought about, spoken, and tolerated when nobody else sees. Culture may surround believers with the same temptations, but Christ calls His people to be among the few who refuse to stain their garments.
Yieldedness brings transformation. Romans calls believers to present themselves as living sacrifices continually, not occasionally, and Galatians says to walk by the Spirit rather than merely trying harder through willpower. The Holy Spirit transforms desires, thoughts, reactions, appetites, relationships, speech, and character as believers yield in practical obedience. Biblical transformation is neither legalism nor passivity. God does the transforming work, and believers continually surrender to His work.

Key Takeaways
- 1. Holiness begins with belonging to Jesus. God’s call does not begin with behavior modification but with a change of ownership. Christ calls people into His character because their lives belong completely to Him. Devotion becomes real when every part of life comes under His lordship, not merely the visible parts. [11:57]
- 2. Grace requires turning from sin. Grace is not permission to remain where sin has broken fellowship with God. Repentance means renouncing the sin, leaving it, and turning toward God with an honest heart. Christ’s blood cleanses the believer who comes into the light rather than using forgiveness as cover for darkness. [24:19]
- 3. Small choices keep garments clean. Holiness is formed in private decisions that rarely receive public attention. The things fed in thought, entertainment, speech, and relationships will grow, while the things starved will die. The Spirit often puts His finger on attitudes, bitterness, gossip, compromise, and hidden habits before they become stains. [36:56]
- 4. Yielding defeats what willpower cannot. The flesh is not overcome simply by stronger effort and better intentions. The Holy Spirit forms Christ’s image through surrendered responses when He says forgive, apologize, tell the truth, or turn something off. Yieldedness makes room for transformation.
