“Do you ever separate out in the compartments of your mind obedience and love? Why do we do that? Why do you separate obedience is here and love is here? I think it's because we feel like obedience is drudgery, and obedience is boring, and obedience is doing something I don't want to do, and I'm just doing it because an authority told me to do so. Is that obedience in your mind? Well, a parent has to threaten punishment to a child, Just take out the trash, please! No, you will take out the trash or Right? And so the child grabs it and takes it out to the dumpster or wherever. Is that obedience? It's compliance. compliance, but it's not obedience. And the way scripture defines obedience, obedience is the willing walking in God's ways. Obedience is the language of love.”

“So, do you love the Lord with all your heart? This God who rejoices to do good for you. The call is not for any of us to be perfectly sinless, but is to continue to press on to follow the Lord God and say, Lord, all of my heart I give to you. And the next day, all of my heart I give to you. And God, yesterday I messed up, so today, all of my heart I give to you. Help me. Draw me to yourself. Increase my love. Because remember, the love with which we give to God is his love. Right? You don't find it deep within. We find it by receiving from him. By receiving from him. It's a love that he has given and is giving and will give to us by his spirit.”

“Biblical obedience is life and joy for us. To keep God's commands, we hold them near. We learn to be responsible or responsive, excuse me, to them, and we discover this is life. This is joy. Saying yes to the Lord and walking in his way. This is life and joy. And the best part is, as we are obeying, as we are experiencing the grace of God, we are loving God. We are loving God and with his love that's reflecting from us and loving others in the process. This is how God has designed us to be. This is the way life is supposed to be, and I know we fall short even as we press in. But this is the way God has designed humans to interact with him and with others. It may be hard, but it is good because God is good, and loving God this way is good. It is good to say yes and obey the Lord. And so here's the clear repeated message, Disciples love God by keeping his commands, by walking in his ways. Obedience and love are not in conflict or even on parallel tracks. Obedience is the language of love.”

“If you are one who's beating yourself up, alright, I don't love God, way I ought to love God, God first loved us. We love because he first loved us. He died on the cross before you sinned for you, for your sin, for me, for our waywardness. He gave his life that the grace of God would be available and there for us to continue to turn back and turn back and turn back today. So let's receive the body of Christ.”
