1. "In this life, there are penalties for offenses, but we must receive the penalties as a form of grace and not condemnation. Those penalties are there for us to understand that when the penalty flags of life are thrown on us, it's not out of spite, it's not out of hate, it's not out of condemnation. It's from the heart of a loving God that wants us to live a life of righteousness through his son, Jesus Christ."

2. "When God throws penalty flags on us for holding spiritually, it happens when a Christian unethically or illegally or immorally holds on to something, listen to this, that in return is going to hold on to you. There's some things that we hold into our lives that eventually is going to get its talons stuck deep into your heart and hold on to you."

3. "Holding will give you a false sense of security, power, and control. Now notice I said a false sense. And the reason it's a false sense is because we're trying to control something that is literally beyond our control. So as we continue through this series, Penalty Flags, and we continue to focus on this juncture of our journey, we're going to see God is calling us to let go of some of the things that many of us are holding on to inside."

4. "When we hold on to the wounds from Satan's attacks, we are preventing ourself from making forward progress spiritually. Now, you may think that you're doing a good thing by holding on to these things that scripture tells us about, but I promise you it is permeating an infection up inside of you that's going to disease every part of your body."

5. "You will never, ever, ever experience positive spiritual transformation in your life. If you continue to grief the Holy Spirit, it ain't going to happen because you can't do it on your own. You may live good for a little while and make a little money, and everything may be going good for you because you're strong and got resources, but can I tell you something? Eventually, you will fail."

6. "Holding on to grudges and resentment internally will result in hostility externally to others. Verse 41, 31. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, and slander along with every form of malice. Now, in a football game, I've already shared this with you, but a holding, a holding, is penalized on a player when they illegally restrain an opponent that's impeding their process."

7. "Holding on to grudges and resentment will create barriers that can only be broken down when we are empathetic to others. You've got to show some empathy. Look at verse 32a. It says, be kind and compassionate to one another. Now, on the football field, when a player commits holding, they unfairly violate the opponent's ability to compete effectively in the game."

8. "Freedom from the bondage of internal resentment is found when we forgive others as a form of worship of Christ. Ephesians 4.32, remember it said, be kind and compassionate to one another, and here's the rest of it. Forgiving each other just as in Christ, God forgave you."

9. "We must release our hold on our internal anguish. We must choose forgiveness of others and ourselves. There's some of you here today that you're hurting so bad inside and you can't find it. You can't find a peace because it's deep in your heart and it's holding on to you and you can't forgive yourself. Can I tell you, as God has told me so many times, he says, I forgave you of that, son. Why are you holding on to that?"

10. "If you think you're greater than God and you think you can deal with this in your own power, just keep doing what you're doing it will continue to rot and mold and rust inside of your heart. And your heart will become so hard because you are pushing the Holy Spirit out. You are grieving the Holy Spirit. You're making him sad. You're making him feel sorrowful, to feel like you've bound him up and push him away because you want to control those situations. Let it go."
