#CostWithComfort
“There is a cost to following Jesus, but the cost comes with comfort. The comfort is he is with us. And in following Christ, we gain Christ. It's important for you to know, the men that heard that, this is how it played out for them. Matthew was beheaded by sword and Mark died in Alexandria after he was drugged through the streets. Luke was hung on an olive tree in Greece. John was boiled in oil. Peter was crucified upside down in Rome. James was beheaded in Jerusalem. The other James was thrown down and beaten to death with clubs. Philip was hung. Bartholomew was whipped and beaten to death. Andrew was crucified and while being crucified he preached to his persecutors at the top of his voice. Thomas was speared to death, Jude was executed by arrows, Matthias was stoned and beheaded, Barnabas was stoned and beheaded. None of these men died for a myth.”

#InvitationToChrist
“The whole point of this is to invite you to Jesus. And this invitation is not to a set of beliefs, although we do believe. And this invitation is not to a Bible verse that you can remember, although it is important to remember the word of God. No, the invitation is to Jesus, the person. He is the way and the truth and the life, and he has given his life for you. He loves you, and then in his own words, he wants you to know that. Like, how do you know that? Read John 17. I'll read it to you as we close today.”

#SentByJesus
“For Kevin, the cross led him to serve others on a different continent, but here you and I are today. Take up your cross here today and see where Jesus leads you here today. Not only as one forgiven by Jesus, but as one sent by Jesus. There are good works that God has prepared in advance for me and for you to walk in here today. And there are people here and there that need to see what it looks like to walk by faith in Jesus on a daily basis. Again, when we respond in faith to follow Jesus, we don't just gain forgiveness, but so much more we gain Jesus.”

#SurpassingWorthOfChrist
“And his confidence is in the Lord. He's seeing his circumstances through the lens of faith. Listen to what else he says. He says, whatever gain I have, I count it as lost for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as lost because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake, I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ. The righteousness from God that depends on faith that I may know him and the power of his resurrection. May share in his sufferings becoming like him in his death that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Whatever this is costing him, it is clear what Paul has gained is Christ and the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus is far better than pursuing a life of complacent comfort, ease and worldly pleasure.”
