Day 1: The Highway Is Jesus, Led By the Spirit

The highway of the Lord is not a physical road but a spiritual reality: Jesus Christ Himself. This highway leads directly to God, accessible only to those redeemed and led by the Holy Spirit. Pride, self-sufficiency, and worldly wisdom cannot walk here—only the humble, dependent, and Spirit-filled. Just as highways have clear signposts, this path bears the name of Jesus, guiding believers through every season. The journey’s pace is set by God’s Spirit, not human striving. Trust His timing. [08:17]

And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. (Isaiah 35:8–10, ESV)

Reflection: Where have you relied on your own strength or wisdom instead of surrendering to the Holy Spirit’s leading? How might humility open new clarity on your journey with Christ?

Day 2: Season to Remove: Mountains and Idols

God clears obstacles on the highway to Himself. Mountains of pride, valleys of despair, and idols of self-sufficiency are leveled by His power. These removals are not punishments but mercies—making space for His presence. Trust His process even when it feels disruptive. What He tears down, He replaces with His sufficiency. The highway’s safety comes from His protection, not our control. [20:09]

I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron. (Isaiah 45:2, ESV)

Reflection: What “mountain” or idol has God been removing in your life? How can you release your grip on it to embrace His provision instead?

Day 3: Rough Places Made Smooth

The highway’s bumps—doubt, fear, and sin’s residue—are smoothed by Christ’s redemption. His grace repairs what human effort cannot fix. A straight path emerges, replacing confusion with clarity. This isn’t a one-time fix but a daily surrender to His reshaping. The smoother the road, the clearer we see God’s face ahead. [32:04]

A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.” (Isaiah 40:3–4, ESV)

Day 4: Returning to First Love

The highway leads believers back to their first love: wholehearted devotion to Jesus. Distractions, busyness, and complacency are detours. Returning means prioritizing prayer, Scripture, and worship over empty routines. Like the church in Ephesus, God calls us to repent and reignite our passion for His presence. [45:02]

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. (Revelation 2:4–5, ESV)

Reflection: What practical step can you take this week to rekindle your first-love zeal for Christ? How might daily Scripture or prayer reset your spiritual rhythm?

Day 5: Resettling and Rebuilding With Purpose

God resettles His people—from Babylon to Jerusalem, from chaos to purpose. This isn’t mere relocation but a rebuilding of identity in Him. Seasons of displacement train us to depend on His plan, not our comfort. Trust His rebuilding, even when the process feels slow or painful. The destination is worth the journey. [55:11]

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10, ESV)

Reflection: Where is God resettling your heart or circumstances? How can you cooperate with His rebuilding rather than resist it?

Sermon Summary

Isaiah 40 opens with comfort because God is preparing a way for His people. The highway of the Lord is Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ leads all the way to God. The Holy Spirit leads the redeemed on this highway, not human wisdom, personal strength, credentials, family background, jobs, or bank accounts. The people of God travel at different speeds, so comparison and rushing have no place when the Spirit is the One leading.

Isaiah 35 calls this road the Highway of Holiness. The redeemed walk there because Jesus has made them clean, and the enemy cannot remain there. The wisdom of this world may call believers foolish, but kingdom wisdom leads to God while worldly wisdom leads people toward destruction. Humility belongs on this highway because pride, self-sufficiency, and material confidence cannot carry anybody to the divine appointment God has prepared.

God makes this highway possible through a season of removal. God brings down mountains, removes idols, and takes away every false source of sufficiency so that His people learn to depend on Him. The contrast between being materially rich and spiritually rich warns the church not to become like Laodicea, full of possessions but poor before God. The kingdom calls for spiritual growth, prayer, Bible study, and work that has a real correlation with Jesus Christ and His kingdom.

God also brings a season of repair. Jesus makes crooked places straight and rough places smooth, giving His people clarity concerning grace, salvation, identity, doctrine, and the God they serve. The Holy Spirit reshapes hearts along the road, and believers must allow God to remold what has become hard, proud, confused, or crooked.

The highway also becomes a season of return. God calls hearts back to their first love, which is Jesus Christ. The church must return to serious prayer, Bible study, devotion, worship, and gathering in the presence of the Spirit, rather than settling for celebration without spiritual depth. Scripture guards believers from false doctrine when they search the Bible for themselves.

God further resettles His people. Abraham, Joseph, and Israel show that relocation can be painful, confusing, and full of different stages, yet God uses every stage to bring His people where He intends. God finally rebuilds and plants what He has brought through removal, repair, return, and resettling. The highway ends with God Himself, and no barrier can stop the One who begins and finishes His work.

And our highway leads to God, and we are led by the Holy Spirit. Now when you have position or or you have been positioned on this highway, what it means is this. You have an appointment because some tell somebody you have an appointment record. Do you know what it means to have an appointment? Like, are you have an appointment and you are driving on the highway because you have an appointment with a certain doctor. Right? Probably with somebody and you are going, you're going.
