"Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only or upon the uncircumcision also for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness." Then he puts the rarely material question which is this how was it then reckoned, when was this righteousness reckoned to Abraham now this is a point of history. [00:05:59]

The apostle now has got two further difficulties to deal with and he proceeds to deal with them in verses 8 9 to 12 he deals with the first and in verses 13- 16 he deals with the second now what is this first difficulty well it's more or less this if then works and deeds do not come at all into this surely circumcision does. [00:02:29]

Circumcision was given as an outward sign to Abraham to seal to him the righteousness which he had already received by faith 14 years ago. He received the sign of circumcision a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised 14 years before. [00:10:38]

The apostle is here saying is that the sign of circumcision was given to Abraham in order to authenticate to him and to give him assurance of and certainty of the fact that he was already justified by faith that the righteousness of God had been imputed and reckoned to him. [00:13:48]

Circumcision did not as it were do anything to Abraham as such it didn't change Abraham in any way at all all it did was to confirm to him something that had already happened, all the meaning of circumcision was that Abraham himself might have all this made sure to him confirmed to him. [00:14:18]

The justification by faith is the basis of the circumcision, the justification comes first and on the basis of that he is given the sign of circumcision as a seal of the thing that has already taken place now that is the apostle's argument and it can be his only argument. [00:15:25]

Abraham is the father of all them that believe though they be not circumcised that righteousness might be imputed unto them also and the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham. [00:08:40]

The promise to Abraham extends beyond the land of Canaan to the entire world, symbolizing the universal reign of Christ and the inheritance of believers. This broadens our understanding of God's promises and our role in His kingdom. [00:37:02]

The seed is therefore the Lord Jesus Christ and all who belong to him and all who are in him Christ is the head we are the members of his body he is the seed and we are only the seed of Abraham by being in him. [00:40:19]

The promise to Abraham must therefore never be confined in our thinking to the Jews to the natural seed of Abraham that's a complete misunderstanding of this scripture and its mighty argument we must never confine this promise to the natural seed of Abraham and to the land of Palestine. [00:43:30]

It is those who are of faith who are Abraham's children circumcision avails nothing nor uncircumcision but a new creature it is to be in Christ that matters because he is the seed through whom and to whom all these promises come and are made real and actual. [00:46:07]

We were once as Gentiles aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise but no more we who sometimes were far off have been made nigh by the blood of Christ indeed says Paul in the third chapter of Ephesians this is the thing that he specially revealed to me. [00:44:02]
