Florence Chadwick swam through dense fog, quitting just half a mile from shore. Her body could finish, but her spirit faltered when vision failed. Endurance requires seeing beyond immediate circumstances to the joy awaiting us. Like Jesus fixing His gaze past the cross to redemption’s triumph, believers must anchor their hearts to eternal realities. Spiritual fog—discouragement, delayed breakthroughs, or confusion—demands we borrow strength from heaven’s timeline. What we fix our eyes on determines whether we sink or swim. [03:30]

But believers can disqualify themselves when the fog of temptation, discouragement, years, pain, and weariness settles on the spirit. Endurance takes more than grit, intensity, and determination. Endurance requires a vibrant spirit.

The joy of the Lord is not personality, mood, or surface level happiness. The joy of the Lord is a light on the inside, sustained by the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus had that joy on the cross. His body was ravaged, but his spirit was untouched, because the joy set before him held him steady.

The Holy Spirit brings rivers of living water within the believer. That river renews, strengthens, refreshes, and gives power in the inner man. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not only boldness, gifts, signs, wonders, and power to witness. The Spirit also brings sustaining joy, the strength to endure, and the grace to finish. The finish line is still there, even when the fog rolls in.

“It's not something attached to your personality type. I mean, there's joyful people. Right? We all love and know joyful people. Maybe not first thing in the morning. We don't wanna know and love them, but, like, later in the day, you know, it's good to see them, and they're joyful, and they're smiling, and they're happy, and they're laughing. But the joy of the Lord is something deeper than that because natural human joy, it's it's not immovable. I mean, the circumstances change. There's heaviness, disappointment. All of those things can take it. But the joy of the Lord, it's a light on the inside of you that's sustained by the anointing and the power of the Holy Spirit, that no matter what is happening on the outside, you have something in you. You're drawing strength from another era. You're drawing strength from another kingdom, from another world. Something is sustaining you because at the end of the day, your hope is not in anything on this side of the grave. You have a house in heaven. Your name is registered in heaven, and it's this sustaining, finishing, completing and it gives you the strength to endure.”

It requires a vibrant spirit. Nehemiah eight says, the joy of the Lord is your strength. The joy of the Lord is your strength. What gives you the strength to live victorious, to complete the assignment that God's given you, to live holy, it's not your commitment and your determination and your intensity. Those things are good. We celebrate those. We see the value in there, but there's something stronger. There's something greater. It's called the joy of the Lord. It's the gift of the Holy Ghost. When he comes in your life, he produces love, joy, peace, patience.”
