Joseph's eyes were open to people God had placed around him he was observant and on this particular morning he noticed a change in the facial expression of these two men he noticed a change in their demeanor now these men were imprison and I don't suppose that on any day their faces were exactly full of joy but it was quite clear to Joseph that on this particular morning something nothing was up with these men they were not themselves. [00:07:00]

If you want to be useful to the Lord in Ministry ask God to give you open eyes and a sensitive heart to times when people are especially troubled that's what we see here in this first statement about Joseph notice what he did next he saw and then he asked verse seven so he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in custody in his master's house why are your faces downcast today. [00:08:05]

Joseph had been given this prophetic gift by which he was able to interpret the dreams and so he offered to tell these men what it was that the Living God was saying in regards to them now you say how does that apply to us well actually actually the application is very obvious God has spoken his word in the scriptures and he has trusted the scriptures to his people so that every Christian is in a position of being able to tell others what it is that God has said. [00:11:36]

Joseph then I think gives us a marvelous model for ministry here and friends it's really important for this reason that Christians aren't always like this oh that we were all like Joseph observant caring ready to speak the word of God into the lives of others but too often we end up like Jonah I mean just to take another story from the Bible you remember his position see it was actually very similar. [00:13:55]

Instead of descending into bitterness he actually serves while he is suffering in the prison it's remarkable and it's a model of Ministry for us to take and to treasure oh God make me more like Joseph than like Jonah don't let me be asleep in my own Rebellion don't let me be absorbed in my own pain let me be someone who even in the difficult circumstances of my life is ready to see and to ask ready to offer the very word of God into the lives of others. [00:16:24]

The cup bearer's dream represented His Highest hopes that there would be a fast forward that would move him out of his present position that in some way he would be pardoned in some way he would be restored to serving the king you don't need any gift of interpretation to see that it's just obvious from looking at the story so it's not surprising then that when Joseph offered to interpret the dream it's the cup Bearer who is the one who steps forward he wanted to know if his highest hopes that were in that dream might possibly be fulfilled. [00:19:46]

The baker's dream represented his deepest fears that perhaps it would be that his work and his job and his position would never be restored that perhaps all of his work would end up being food for birds you don't need any special gift of interpretation or prophecy to see that but again what Joseph told the baker could only have come from God. [00:24:10]

Highest hopes deepest fears what you have here in the prison is a microcosm of the whole of humanity two men one of them is going to be pardoned one of them is going to be punished one of them is about to see his greatest hope fulfilled the other is about to see his greatest fear realized two men counting the days one hoping for the best and willing it to come forward the other fearing the worst and dreading what lies ahead. [00:25:17]

Joseph announced the future but Jesus changed the future see Joseph was a prophet what that means was that he was able to announce the future he could say now look here's what's going to happen Mr Cup Beer you're going to be part Mr Baker you are going to be punished Joseph was able to announce the future that's what prophets did but Jesus is able to change the future that friends that's huge Jesus is more than a prophet he is the savior different category much more. [00:34:10]

Jesus did not come to announce your future Jesus came to change it and that's why there is hope for you in in him that's why when you may find yourself facing your greatest fear what you need is not a prophet you need a savior Jesus came to stand in the place of sinners who like the baker were destined for The Gallows of the king's Justice and he came to bring us like the cup Bearer into the blessing and the freedom of the King's Service. [00:37:10]

Jesus Christ is able to bring the best hope into the place of your worst fear he is full of Mercy towards Sinners who know that we are guilty and if you will trust yourself to him he will not forget you he will not abandon you he will walk with you through all of your greatest fears and he will bring you into a future that is greater than anything you have ever dared to dream. [00:38:22]

Father thank you that you've not left us only with a prophet thank you that you have given us the Savior that you yourself in your son Jesus Christ are are our savior and our Mighty deliverer the one who has come not only to announce a future that for us could only be of unspeakable loss but the one who has come to change the future through Grace and through mercy and through the Glorious achievement of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
