1. "Do you ever have those kind of moments in your life? Is that story I just told a story of something that goes in our own lives sometimes, times where we feel like, God, there's no way out of this situation. I don't know what we're going to do. What are you doing, God, right now? God, this is not where I wanted to be in my life at this stage in my career. This other person got promoted, and I didn't. Where are you, God, right now?" 2. "How can we trust God's unfolding plan in our life when it seems like he's absent at times, when we can't see him? And this morning, as we look at these early days of Joseph's life, and as we see seeds of themes that would come to bloom throughout his life that we'll see in coming weeks, my hope is that we'll uncover three ways that we can trust God's unfolding plan in our lives, even when he seems absent." 3. "When we live life, do we live life like we are the first people who ever lived on this earth? I know I do a lot. I think this is the worst problem that's ever happened to anyone in the world. God, please do something amazing. And God does love me individually, but I am just one little part of his bigger plan. As we come into contact with Christ, we're not the first to come into contact with Christ, and we're not the last who will be part of his plan." 4. "Sometimes we can't see what God is doing in the present, but he is at work even in our mess. And I think again about our own lives. God is at work even in our mess. God, why did you let this person who I love get cancer? God, why is this person promoted and not me? God, why is my marriage not going the way I wanted it to? My life is a mess, but God is at work even now." [57:01] (60 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "Billy Graham, he once said, there are times that I feel Christ so very close that I feel like standing up and dancing a jig. There are times that I feel like shouting hallelujah. And then there are other times when I can't even touch Christ. I don't even feel him at all. Billy talks about writing to his mom once. He says, I wrote to her one day, mother, for the last few weeks, I haven't been able to get anywhere in my prayers. I don't feel Christ. And she said, son, you have accepted Christ as your savior. And whether you are feeling or not, the moments that you don't feel anything are the moments when he may be the closest." [57:38] (40 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "So where are you? Where has God put you in your life? Where in the mess of your present can God and will God use you even when it doesn't seem like he's there? You can believe that he is. So how do we apply that to our lives? How do we apply believing that God is in our present? Well, one is we can be comforted in knowing that even in the mess of our present, even though there's jealousy at times, pride, confusion, that that is where God often is working. He's redeeming broken people, broken circumstances." [01:01:02] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "So how do we trust in God's unfolding plan even when it seems like he's absent? We reflect. We reflect on God's unfolding plan through the past. We believe in God's presence in the mess of our present. And we hope in the redemption of God for the future." [01:08:22] (17 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "I can't help but think that in this life that we'll see of Joseph, that there is something going on here. That there's a pattern being set up by the biblical authors. There's a type, a typology that was looking forward to that coming seed, that descendant of Adam and Eve that we read about in Genesis 3. We know there's a deliverer coming, someone who will smash the head of the serpent. And it won't be Joseph, but Joseph's life will look forward to what that coming redeemer will be like. And of course, we know today, in hindsight, that that is Jesus Christ." [01:05:34] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

9. "For those who trust in Jesus as Savior, we get to hope in him every day. We get to hope that the greater Jesus is taking care of us, he is taking care of us, and he will take care of us in the future. We can share that good news with all those around us. We can tell others about how great our Savior is, even greater than Joseph in his day. And we get to look forward to the day when Jesus will return. He's coming back." 10. "So much greater than any challenges we face today. So Jesus, we say come back soon. Let your plan unfold. And please save so many for your glory. Please continue to be with us now in this worship." [01:12:19] (11 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
