"Joseph's life exemplifies how God uses adversity to fulfill His purposes. Despite being sold into slavery and facing numerous trials, Joseph's journey reveals that God is sovereign, working through our pain to bring about His redemptive plan. This narrative encourages us to trust in God's sovereignty, even when faced with trials, knowing that He never wastes our suffering but uses it for His glory and our growth." [00:00:55]

"The central theme of this story and we're going to keep coming back to this so just to lay it out right at the beginning is that the one that they despise becomes the one on whom all their hopes depend. That's the great turnaround that happens in this marvelous Old Testament story. The one that they despised becomes the one on whom all of their hopes depend." [00:01:41]

"Joseph is given to us presented to us as really a model or an example or a snapshot if you like of a godly life. It's very significant nothing bad is ever said about Joseph in the Bible account and I think one reason for this may well be that he is clearly presented to us as a foreshadowing or a kind of pointer or sometimes we use this word a type of Jesus Christ." [00:02:49]

"Joseph's brothers made a great deal and made a deal with a group called the Shekermites that is the expanded family of a man by the name of Shechem and the backstory was that Shechem had fallen in love with and slept with their sister Dinah and the brothers were outraged at this but then they made a deal with Shechem and with his extended family that they would be at peace with him and that they would in fact blend the two families together if all of the men in Shechem's family were circumcised." [00:06:14]

"Joseph was loved and favored by his father and then it's very clear in this story that Joseph was also loved and favored by Almighty God and that God spoke to him in a very special way through his dreams. Now it's important to remember that throughout the Bible there is progress in the way that God communicates with his people." [00:15:03]

"God used a remarkable diversity in the earliest times of ways of communicating with his people. In these last days he has used one particular way to communicate with his people and it is the full and final way and it is through his son. All that God promises to us and all that God requires of us is made absolutely plain through Jesus Christ who we have come to know through the scriptures." [00:16:25]

"Joseph's dream was the word of God more than that it was the word of God not only in relation to him but in relation to his whole family. If he has been trusted by direct revelation with the word of God in relation to himself and his whole family how could he possibly keep it to himself but telling the word of God was really costly for Joseph." [00:20:28]

"Sometimes receiving the word of God will isolate you from your friends. Another gay way of getting around that the Bible's given to us to help us understand what it's going to be like to be a real follower of Jesus Christ and you cannot read this story I think without drawing this conclusion that sometimes receiving as Joseph did the word of God will isolate you from your friends." [00:31:07]

"How else in all the world are rebellious men like Simeon and Levi and Reuben and Judah with all that we learned about them just a few moments ago how in all the world are these men going to end up in heaven except by the sheer grace of God and by the faithfulness of their little brother who had the guts and the courage to speak the word of God and not to be scared and the rejection of it wasn't the end of the story you see." [00:32:55]

"God never wastes a day of the suffering of his people but uses it in the outworking of his marvelous purpose and the really wonderful thing you see is that God advances his purpose not only despite the painful things in your life but actually through the painful things in your life. It's through the most painful things in Joseph's life that God's redeeming purpose for the brothers is advanced." [00:36:47]

"God loves me with an everlasting love and if you find yourself in a place of life where others are being advanced and others are getting opportunity and it never seems to come to you then in Jesus Christ you can say I am showered with the favor of God I am blessed with every spiritual blessing in Jesus Christ he has lavished his love in Christ on me and all of that is true for every person who will truly bow down before God's loved and favored son whose name is Jesus Christ." [00:37:41]

"Always remember that Christ is loved and favored by God and in him that love and favor extends to you. Always remember this God has one son who has always been the object of the father's love and the father's favor and always will be and in him because he has entered the human family now lies all the hope of all his sisters and brothers." [00:35:20]
