Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

Joseph, in his own mind, had a plan. And that was to avoid the difficulties. How do I know that? Because it says it. Matthew 1, 18-19. Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary, had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. [00:12:31] (34 seconds)

Joseph also showed us how to obey God in the distant places. Joseph is going to get three dreams, three visits from an angel while he's asleep. And the first comes when he's instructed to take Mary as his wife, even though she is pregnant. The second comes after the Magi make their visit to see the child that is Jesus. [00:18:22] (32 seconds)

The real challenge of distant places is when we feel distant. We feel distant. We feel distant. We feel distant. We feel distant from God. When by choices or circumstances, it seems God is not here with us. Christmas is all about God coming to be with us. And yet sometimes we feel distant from him. [00:22:02] (33 seconds)

The truth is, we are never really distant from God. It is just a feeling. Again, the baby Jesus would grow up and say this to his followers, and behold, I am with you always to the end of the age. Matthew 28, 20. These are some promises to hold onto. [00:22:42] (26 seconds)

Joseph shows us how to obey God in daily life the final dream we have of Joseph's is a calling back to God back to Jerusalem back home if you will but when Herod died behold an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt saying rise take the child and his mother and go back to the land of Israel for those who saw the child's life are dead. [00:24:20] (48 seconds)

It is the day-to-day obedience in our lives that builds up the bedrock of being a disciple of Christ. In one of the most famous sermons, Jesus would say, everyone then who hears this, these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock and the rain fell and the floods came and the winds blew and beat on that house. [00:27:47] (29 seconds)

We need to be like Joseph and with a very simple faith trust and obey what God tells us. In the difficulties, in the difficulties, in the difficulties, in the distant places and in our daily lives, an offering of obedience. This mysterious man named Joseph, the righteous man who cared for Mary and helped raise the Messiah, seems to show us what simple obedience looks like. [00:31:04] (61 seconds)

Take your everyday, ordinary life, your sleeping, eating, going to work and walking around life, and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. [00:33:14] (32 seconds)

Joseph was an important character. Why? Not because he was Jesus' stepdad, but actually because he was the example of faith, obedience and trust. Why? Because he was in need of salvation, Shortly afterwards, so that we can hold on to, that we can learn from, whether you're in difficulties, obey God, trust Him. [00:34:40] (43 seconds)
