"In the last couple of days, we have added a few seconds of daylight. Did you notice? Okay. Over the last month, we've been focusing on who Jesus is and that Jesus is the light of the world. And the question to start tonight's message, I've only prepared about an hour-long message for tonight, but we have passed the shortest day of the year. We're headed into winter. Some of the cold days are ahead. But the shortest day of the year is now behind us. When have you experienced complete and utter darkness?" [00:00:16] (54 seconds)

"On the very first Christmas, more than 2,000 years ago, the setting in which Jesus came into the world was one that goes like, this world was completely politically divided. Israel was completely conquered by Rome. They sort of had their own problem. Government, but they were politically owned. Morally, people were in bad spots. They were making poor decisions. The law was there to be had, and they had to use it over and over." [00:01:31] (38 seconds)

"As we focus on who Jesus is and the light that he is, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in, the promise was fulfilled. The promise that Isaiah talked about over and over, that the Son of God would be born of a virgin. We brought into this world as a child, and yet they twisted it all up. They had expectations of a warrior, and yet an infant." [00:03:01] (34 seconds)

"Why do we gather every year at a special service for some 70 verses that are in the Bible? Why do we gather here? Because... The promise is fulfilled. Because we have a world that is still dark today. We have difficulties that come across us. There's a story of a group of people. They were in, I believe, Thailand." [00:05:16] (40 seconds)

"And after a lengthy amount of time, a diver was able to swim through and bring a small amount of light. A diver was able to swim through and bring a small amount of hope in food. So much so, like, Jesus came. Not in the way that we expected, not in the way that we had maybe even hoped, but he came as a child." [00:06:44] (36 seconds)

"But what the majority of what the New Testament speaks about is how Jesus, the light of the world, broke through into the darkness and he didn't come because he wanted to extend the law over you. He didn't come because he wanted to judge and rule the people that he created. No, Jesus came because he wanted to extend his grace." [00:07:57] (33 seconds)

"As we focus ourselves on light, that Jesus is the light of the world, as a carpenter, I always, not always, but I often think back to job sites, things that I've known for the last 15 years very, very well. And in a job site, one of the most important aspects of any job is the lighting." [00:09:52] (27 seconds)

"Verse 6. God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light. He was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is a true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him." [00:12:11] (28 seconds)

"You see, this Jesus that came into the world is a light that changed everything. This Jesus that came into the world, although there is still darkness out there, no darkness can ever overcome light. That's what Jesus did when he came. The beginning of time where Mary, not the beginning of time, Jesus' birth, where Mary and Joseph, simple, humble, people that God had chosen, people that God had chosen, chose to believe who this Jesus was." [00:13:03] (51 seconds)

"The world was forever changed when he came into it. The world was changed, because the way was changed. In which Jesus lived his life there was nothing left but to change the world. And we get to make a choice. Is this Jesus who was born, who walked the earth, who healed, who extended grace to people that the society of that day said didn't deserve it?" [00:14:42] (40 seconds)

"Jesus is holy forever. As a child who was born in a manger, as a man who walked the earth, as a man who healed, who stood up against the religious elites of the day, as a man who gave of his life, he is worthy of our praise. He is worthy of that light being set on top of the lampstand." [00:17:55] (39 seconds)
