#FaithIsAboutJesus
“``Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to belittle the importance of faith in any way. But we do need to clarify its role. You see, your faith is not what gets you through hard times. Your faith in and of itself isn't what saves you. It's the object of your faith. Jesus does that. Jesus gets you through hard times. Jesus saves you. Now maybe to a lot of you that sounds like a distinction without a difference. But when you are doubting, it makes all the difference in the world.”

#JesusNotFaith
“Sometimes when you hear Christians who have gone through a tough time reflect on their difficult time, they'll say things like, I never would have made it through that if it weren't for my faith. Now I understand what people mean when they say that. But sometimes when you hear Christians talk about their Christianity, it almost sounds as if it's more about their faith than it is about Jesus. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to belittle the importance of faith in any way. But we do need to clarify its role. You see, your faith is not what gets you through hard times. Your faith in and of itself isn't what saves you. It's the object of your faith. Jesus does that. Jesus gets you through hard times. Jesus saves you.”

“But the thing is, this story doesn't end with the apostle Peter swimming with the fishes at the bottom of the Sea Of Galilee. Because again, this story isn't just about sinners who doubt, who need more faith. This is a story about Jesus and how he deals with sinners who doubt and need more faith. Can you imagine what Peter must have looked like thrashing there in the water? He desperately cried out, Lord, save me. Now the sequence of events of what happens next is very important. Jesus did not go and crouch over Peter while he was still in the water and say, you of little faith, why did you doubt? You'd better try harder next time. Maybe then I'll think about helping you. It says, immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.”

#PiercedHandsHeal
“And when your sin has selfishly scarred someone else forever, and you know they won't forgive you and it sure feels like God won't forgive you either. What you need is not a lecture about faith. What you need is not to hear that you just gotta trust in Jesus and everything's gonna be okay. No. What you need in that moment is to see once again the pierced hands of Jesus that were scarred for you to take even that sin away. That's what we need. When we are weak, when we are doubting, what we need is Jesus.”
