Jesus: Our Sinless Savior and Source of Victory
Summary
In today's gathering, we explored the profound truth of Jesus Christ's sinless life, as depicted in Hebrews 4:15-16. This passage reveals that Jesus, our High Priest, was tempted in every way as we are, yet remained without sin. This truth is foundational to our faith, as it assures us of His ability to sympathize with our weaknesses and His power to offer us mercy and grace in our times of need. We delved into the significance of Jesus' sinlessness, emphasizing that His life was untainted by sin, making Him the perfect sacrifice for our redemption.
We began by reflecting on the reality that Jesus confronted sin just like us. He faced temptation in the wilderness, as described in Luke 4, where Satan tempted Him with the desires of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life. Yet, Jesus' response was rooted in His appetite for God's Word, His ambition for God's will, and His attitude of worship towards God. This serves as a model for us, demonstrating that while temptation is inevitable, sin is not.
Furthermore, we acknowledged that Jesus conquered sin for us. His sinless nature was not to prove He could sin but to demonstrate that He could not. He used Scripture as His weapon against temptation, showing us the power of God's Word in overcoming sin. Jesus' sinlessness means that sin could not convict, contaminate, or control Him, affirming His divine nature and His role as our Savior.
Finally, we recognized that Jesus combats sin with us. His victory over sin is our victory, offering us the assurance of salvation and the power to overcome sin in our lives. Through His mercy and grace, we are equipped to resist temptation and live sanctified lives. Jesus' sinless life is not just a theological concept but a practical reality that empowers us to live victoriously.

This teaches us that while temptation is inevitable, sin is not, and we can overcome it by aligning our desires with God's. Jesus' experience in the wilderness, as described in Luke 4, shows us that He was tempted with the desires of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life. However, His unwavering commitment to God's Word and His purpose allowed Him to resist. This serves as a model for us, demonstrating that we too can overcome temptation by immersing ourselves in Scripture and seeking God's will above all else. [46:58]
Hebrews 2:18 (ESV): "For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted."

This truth is foundational to our faith, as it affirms Jesus' divine nature and His role as our Savior. 1 Peter 2:22-24 (ESV): "He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed."

Hebrews 7:26-27 (ESV): "For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself."

If Jesus would have given in, if He would have compromised, He would have compromised our salvation. See, His appetite was the Word of God and His ambition was the will of God. Finally, we see His attitude was the worship of God. Verse 9, and He, Satan, took Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of a temple and said to Him, if you are the Son of God, the second time He said that, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, He will command His angels concerning you to guard you, and on their hands they will bear you up lest you strike your foot against the stone. And Jesus answered him, it is said, you shall not put your Lord, your God, to the test. So there's Satan. Look out for number one. It's all about you, Jesus. He wants Jesus to have the attitude of, I did it my way. See, Satan is saying, why don't you bypass the cross and go straight for the crown? [00:48:57] (52 seconds)
Jesus was tempted not to prove he could overcome sin, but to prove that sin could not overcome him. You see, Jesus was not God because he was sinless. He was sinless because he was God. And therefore, we can say three things about Jesus in sin. Number one, sin could not convict him. In John chapter 8 verse 46, Jesus asked the rhetorical question that no other human being on earth, including myself, would ever ask because I would be embarrassed that somebody would answer it. Listen to what he said. Which one of you convicts me of sin? I hope none of y 'all would do that because there'd be a lot of hands going up because all of us are sinners. [00:51:42] (44 seconds)
But if that testimony isn't enough, how about the testimony of God the Father? How about that? At the beginning of Jesus's ministry and at the end of Jesus's ministry, God the Father said something about Jesus that he had never said about anybody else in Psalm 35. Now, here's what God thinks of the world up until Jesus. Psalm 53, verse 3, they have all fallen away. They have all become corrupt. There is none who does good, not even one. Yet when Jesus came, listen to what God said, this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Amen. That's a sinless Savior, friends. Sin could not convict him. Second, sin could not contaminate him. Jesus and sin were complete strangers. Listen again to the testimony of the Bible. Paul, who was a blasphemer of Jesus, he hated him, the most bitter enemy, said in 2 Corinthians 5, verse 21, for our sake he made him to be sin, who knew no sin, that in him we might become the righteousness of God. [00:54:43] (54 seconds)
I can stand here and tell you the good news all day long, but until you realize that you need that good news, until you realize that that sin has caused some very bad news, that you need a solution to, then you'll never come to Jesus. Oh, shucks, Jim, I'm a swell guy. Oh, shucks, you know, I love my mama, and I pay my taxes, and I don't kick my dog, and I don't cheat on my wife. Well, that's great. Don't do any of those things. Pay your taxes. Love you, mama. But that's not going to get you into heaven, because your problem isn't that you're not nice enough. The problem is you're a sinner. And I'm not just pointing out. I'm pointing in, because I know me. And Paul said, I am the chief. I am the foremost of sinners. [00:55:34] (47 seconds)
Jesus is our great example, because He is the grand exception. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, except Jesus. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, except Jesus. God commends men everywhere to repent, except Jesus, because sin could not contaminate Him. Sin could also not control Him. Jesus was never kept awake by a guilty conscience, never once. He never blushed over a shameful comment, and He never regretted any sinful conduct. No unclean thought went through His mind. No unkind word crossed His lips, and no unrighteous deed ever came from His hands, because in His conduct, His character, His thoughts, His words, His attitudes, His actions were absolutely perfect. And the question that Jesus asked in John 8, 46 is still unanswered. [00:57:26] (51 seconds)
Now, friend, if you're trying to confront, to combat, and to conquer sin on your own, you're going to fail. You are never going to succeed. You need a sinless Savior's sacrifice. You need that victory to defeat sin in your life. You need the mercy and grace that only Jesus can offer to you. He is the Son of God. He is the way and the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through him. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Trust in him today, and you will receive the mercy from the wrath that you deserve, and you will receive the grace that you don't. Let's pray. [01:04:35] (39 seconds)
Heavenly Father, we give you praise and thanks for both the mercy and the grace that you give to us through our faith in the sinless Son of God, Jesus Christ. Lord, I pray for those here today who don't know you as Savior, those who have never surrendered their lives to you, Lord. Church is about the saints. It's about edifying the saints, but Lord, that beautiful message of the gospel convicts. We know that your Holy Spirit is here. We know that your Holy Spirit's working on hearts right now, so I pray for those who are not part of the church, those who are far from you, God. [01:05:22] (36 seconds)
