“Herod was happy to listen to John for hours and even acknowledge him as a righteous man. But when it came time to choose between the message of repentance and his own kingdom building ambitions, Herod had no conviction. And he took the life of an innocent man rather than humble his life before the offer of grace that is on display from God. Now this is a solemn caution. If anybody heard the good news, it was Herod. But the longer you listen to the gospel without transformation, the harder it becomes to repent and believe.”

#FormedByJesus
“You can't manufacture this kind of character. It is formed the same way it was formed with the disciples, by walking with Jesus long enough that his heart starts to become your heart, that that our mission is to be formed by Jesus so that when we go out into our homes, when we go out into our workplaces, when we go out and talk to our neighbors, their wives, childrens, not our performance that they meet, but it is the person of Jesus.”

#FaithOverFortune
“When material and personal gain mean mean more to us than faithfulness and dependency in Jesus, the message about Jesus loses its credibility. And rather than advancing the kingdom of God, we join in its opposition giving the wrong reasons for why people take offense at its presence. Jesus does not promise success. He doesn't promise popularity or even acceptance. He just promises his provision and his power for those who faithfully live according to his call and according to his sending.”

#GodUsesOrdinaryPeople
“``How strange that is. Yet, how according to the design and the heart of god, this is exactly right. This is exactly what was planned from right out of the gate. A god of infinite power and glory and capability chooses to have himself, his message of salvation, and his kingdom of renewal born witness to and advanced by fallible people. People like you. People like me. But people who have come to know and love him because Jesus has brought them there. They've become like Jesus in heart. They they share his mission and his love of god and and bearing witness to who god is and his character and his nature. How extraordinary that god calls you and I to be a part of what he is doing, that he advances his kingdom through through sharing his mission.”
