Your struggles, joys, and seat in this sanctuary today were known to Him before light pierced the void. The God who scripted redemption’s plan now authors your story with the same intentionality. Hebrews opens by declaring that God has spoken finally and fully by his Son. The Son is not merely another prophet, good teacher, or example of faithfulness. Jesus is the one through whom God made the world, the radiance of God’s glory, the exact imprint of his nature, and the one who upholds the universe by the word of his power. The one who created humanity came down to save humanity, and he now reigns for humanity.

The incarnation stands at the center of everything Christianity claims. God took on flesh in Jesus Christ, who is truly God and truly human. Jesus did not give up his divinity to become human, nor did he only appear human while remaining distant from human weakness. His two natures exist without confusion, change, division, or separation, fully God and fully man at all times, joined in one person.

There is not a maverick molecule outside his rule, and no redeemed life is a cosmic coincidence. Christ did not stumble into the cross as a victim of history. The supreme strategist knowingly wrote the check, took it to the bank, and paid the full cost of redemption.

Christ’s true humanity means that God did not create a broken world, notice the warning lights, and leave it to sort itself out. Jesus came down into human pain, betrayal, hunger, fear, rejection, temptation, and death. The perfect God subjected himself to the full human experience, not simply to show that people should try harder, but because there was no way to salvation except through him.

Hebrews also insists that the gospel does not end with Jesus dying. The God-man rose, ascended, and sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. The dust of the earth now sits on heaven’s throne. Christ reigns with supreme authority, and the judge who reigns knows exactly what it is to be human. His resurrection and reign make every promise secure, even in suffering and death.
