“They received grace just as they were. Jesus didn't expect those disciples to be him. How could they? Any more than he expects us to be him. He knows that they never could. He knows that we never could be Jesus. And he looked at them. He looks at us, and he says, it's enough for the disciple to be like the teacher. This isn't about trying harder, but we, through the waters of our baptism, we've put on Christ. We bear his image as we carry his light and his love out into the world proclaiming the good news alive to God in Christ Jesus. The world says, save yourself. And Jesus tells us, give yourself to me. The world is constantly telling us that we need more or we need to be more, and Jesus simply says, it is enough.”

“and yet Jesus knelt before each of them and showed them his love in the action of washing their feet. They received grace just as they were. Jesus didn't expect those disciples to be him. “Jesus is saying that people have to be either totally in or not. Can't sit on the on the fence with this. Now this doesn't mean that Jesus is advocating for people to neglect their parents or their children anymore than when Jesus said that you must deny yourself and follow me means that you need to stop brushing your teeth. Self care. Rather, loving Jesus more than family or more than self means that you shouldn't prioritize what's gonna benefit yourself or your own interests or the interests of your friends or family over the interest of Jesus, which is to say those things that benefit all people, the entire earth.”
