Conocer a Jesús: más allá de la religiosidad

Jesus’ warning in Matthew 7 is strong because people can call Him “Lord,” serve in ministry, prophesy, cast out demons, sing the songs, come to the altar, and still hear, “I never knew you.” Religious activity does not prove that a life belongs to Jesus. Miracles, gifts, titles, ministry, and accomplishments cannot replace knowing Him.

The real question is not whether a believer has done everything perfectly. The real question is, “Do I truly know Jesus, and does my life really belong to Him?” Genuine faith does not mean a life without struggle. Genuine faith means a heart that responds when God exposes sin, saying, “Forgive me. Change me. Transform me. I do not want to be the same anymore.”

Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount describes kingdom people. The Beatitudes reveal hearts that know their need for God, hunger for righteousness, show mercy, pursue peace, and seek purity of heart. Those characteristics do not earn the kingdom by religious performance. Jesus living inside His people produces those characteristics as His word enters the heart, takes root, and changes a life.

Jesus’ image of the tree and its fruit brings the warning into focus. Good fruit cannot be taped onto a dead tree. Outward Christianity can look alive for a moment, but fruit reveals whether life is really there. A person can learn the religious language and keep up an appearance while the heart remains far from God. Information about God cannot take the place of transformation by God.

Jesus’ words, “I never knew you,” speak of more than knowing facts. The biblical idea of knowing carries covenant, relationship, love, and something sacred. Jeremiah’s promise of the new covenant shows God writing His instruction on hearts so that His people would know Him.

The rocky soil receives the word with joy but has no deep roots. The thorny soil hears the word, but worries, money, stress, and the cares of this life choke it out. Good soil truly hears and understands God’s word, bearing fruit thirty, sixty, and one hundred times over.

God the Father does not stand far away from His children. His open arms meet first steps, His love meets rejection, and His pride meets the child who keeps going after failure. Jesus knows His sheep, and His sheep know His voice. The call is simple and real: come running home, know Him more, and let His love fill the heart.
