Day 1: Locked Doors Cannot Hold the Risen Christ

The disciples huddled behind locked doors, paralyzed by fear of persecution. Their minds knew Mary’s testimony—Jesus was alive—but their hearts still trembled. Then He stood among them, unhindered by walls, His wounded hands proof of resurrection power. His first word? “Peace.” Not as the world gives, but as the conqueror of death gives. John gives eyewitness testimony at the end of his Gospel so that people who have not seen Jesus with their own eyes may still have enough to believe. Mary Magdalene has already seen the empty tomb and spoken with the risen Lord, and Peter and John have already found the tomb empty. Yet the disciples sit behind locked doors that very night, afraid of the Jews and unsure what will happen next. Fear has gotten so ingrained in them that even resurrection news has not yet worked its way down into peace.

Jesus comes into that locked room without knocking, because locked doors mean nothing to the Lord of the universe. Jesus stands among frightened disciples and says, “Peace be with you.” Jesus shows them his hands and his side, not only to prove that it is really him, but to show that sin and death have been conquered. Jesus does not merely calm them down. Jesus gives them peace, gives them purpose, and gives them the promise of the Holy Spirit. As the Father sent him, so Jesus sends them, and God is not done with them yet.

The resurrection turns fear into peace because death is no longer the thing that rules the Christian life. And when he does, he has a faith that is gonna go with him the rest of his life, That's gonna take him to foreign lands where he spreads the gospel. And and he begins by worshiping Jesus, and Jesus said, you have believed because you've seen. Blessed are those who believe when they don't see. That's by the by the way, that's us. Right? God, Jesus here gives a blessing to us because we haven't, like Tom, has been able to touch the wounds of Jesus. We haven't, like Thomas, seen physically the resurrected Jesus. And Jesus said, but blessed are those who believe even though they don't see.”

“``For the Christian, what we have to understand for each of us, god has a purpose and a plan and has sent us into the world. I know sometimes it's it's difficult to understand god's purpose and god's plan. I know sometimes in life, things just don't seem to make sense, and we we wonder whether we're doing anything good for for god. And and sometimes we struggle and and sometimes doubt creeps in. But what we have to remember is God has placed us here for a reason. And if we're still breathing, God has a purpose and a plan for us and has sent us. And we should find hope in that. You know, sometimes life seems meaningless and pointless, and I I've I've heard some describe, you know, those who aren't Christians that that that it just doesn't seem to matter and and none of it makes sense. But for the Christian, what God has given us is is a purpose. He has given us, he has given us a mission, a task. And for us, that should fill our lives with hope.”
