“``Yet there's a difference. Joseph suffered because of someone else's sin. Jesus suffered because of my sin and your sin. And he who had perfect character and perfect integrity, who never compromised, even though I lack integrity, I have compromised. He lovingly went to the cross for you and for me to pay the debt that we owe. He took the punishment that we deserve so that we could be forgiven, made new, be called sons and daughters of the most high God, brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, co heirs with him to inherit the eternal kingdom.”

“Or maybe if you feel like you're in the prison today, things have not gone well. You're really disappointed in how life has turned out. Remember, the God who was with Joseph in that prison is the same God who'll be with you through everything that you walk through in this life. So the question I wanna leave you with today, will you trust in God's presence more than your circumstances? Will you trust in his power more than your own power to deliver yourself out of whatever situation you're in? The Lord was with Joseph. The Lord has promised to never leave us and to never forsake us. Our integrity is found not in white knuckling it and self disciplining ourselves. Our integrity is found in seeking after Jesus with everything that we have and allowing his love to be the motivator in our lives.”

#HisPresenceIsEnough
“And sometimes, God's greatest gift to us is not getting us out of the situation that we're in, but it's being with us through it, all the way through it. And sometimes, greatest thing that happens to us in the middle of something very difficult is that we actually realize God's presence is truly enough for us. And all of the things of this world can pass away, and if we have our relationship with Jesus, then that is absolutely enough. And for some of us here today, we need to realize that. Maybe you feel like God has left you, maybe you feel like God is punishing you, and that's just simply not the case. Because he is with you through the ups and downs, especially during those trials more than you can ever even begin to realize.”

#IntegrityWhenNoOneIsWatching
“That was his response because honoring the Lord is his highest priority. See, integrity is not about protecting our reputation, which I think is sometimes what we use to justify, okay, well, I gotta do the right thing in this situation because I wanna look good, I wanna make sure everybody else sees me and I look good. But the reality is integrity is really about treasuring your relationship with God more than anything else in the world. It's having a love and a passion for Jesus that supersedes everything else. Then we gotta ask hard questions. Right? Like, because integrity honors God when no one is watching. So when no one is watching, what do you do?”

#GodWithYouInTrials
“I think one of the hardest lessons that we have to learn is that God's presence is enough even when life isn't fair. I so appreciated what Steven said during our worship today is their family experienced a tragedy this last week a couple of weeks and been a hard week, very hard week. But God's presence is enough. I wonder, can you say that? Is that true for you? Like in all the ups and downs of life, is God's presence really enough for us? Go back and look at the scripture here. If we were writing this story, we would probably write it somewhat differently. We would say, well, Joseph went into prison and then they found out that he was wrongly accused and he was acquitted and let go and gained his freedom and life was good for Joseph. It's probably how we'd write the story, but it's not what it says. Joseph had to stay in the prison, but the Lord was with him.”

#ObedienceCanCost
“You've been there? Like you did everything right and you were still let go from the job? You did everything right and you were still betrayed by someone close to you? You did everything right but you still got blamed for the mess that happened, The thing that you didn't do. You watched someone else lie and cheat and steal, and they got the promotion over you. See, one of the lies that we have believed in modern America is that obedience to God is gonna lead to blessing. And strangely enough, that's not always the case. Sometimes, there is a cost for obedience. Sometimes, there is suffering that comes because we are obedient to God and to his word.”

#HonorGodInSecret
“So Joseph, good looking guy, running the household. Potiphar is off doing his thing. And here is Potiphar's wife. I imagine she was probably a pretty good looking lady too. Says, hey, Why don't you come to bed with me? And Joseph refuses her and refuses her and refuses her. Now, notice here what the temptation is. Obviously, there is the sexual temptation here. But there's a much bigger issue at stake here. Something much deeper. The real question is, and the question that we have to wrestle with, will you honor God when nobody else will ever know? Will you honor God when nobody else will ever know? Because what we see today is that integrity honors God when no one is watching.”

#IntegrityThroughJesus
“And in this life, his spirit lives within us that moves and helps us be people of character and integrity when we lack it. So the goal this morning is not to hear, well, I gotta be a person of character and integrity, and I gotta white knuckle this thing the rest of my life. I gotta hold on to it for everything that I have. No. Remember, it's pointing to Jesus who had perfect character and had perfect integrity, and he paid the price for you and me because we lack it. Yet through his strength, through our relationship with him, our love for him, that then is our whole motivation for being people of integrity.”
