Inside Out | Matthew 5:21-32 | September 20, 2026

Jesus begins with what is unseen. The termite image shows how anger, lust, and broken covenant can eat away at the framing of a life while everything on the outside still looks fine. Jesus does not merely police the finish line of murder, adultery, or divorce. Jesus goes back to the starting line, to the heart where contempt, consumption, and convenience begin to take root.

Anger that reduces another person to “worthless to me” is not a small thing, because contempt devalues someone made in God’s image. Jesus calls the worshiper to remember and reconcile, even before bringing a gift to the altar.
