#DisappointmentPointsToJesus
“``This is why we're gonna disappoint each other, but a disappointment is a good thing because it's showing us maybe I put something on them that was only supposed to be put on Jesus. Maybe I had expectations for them to make me happy and make me feel loved and validate me and give me a sense of identity. And then when they didn't, I could look to him and find my source of identity and my validation and my purpose and what true love really is. And that doesn't make me hate this person. It makes me see them through the right perspective.”

#UnityNotUniformity
“And the number one killer of any church but especially a young church is division. We don't have to be the same to have biblical community. And I would say that is the beauty of the church. Number two, God's workers were individuals. Yes they were unified but God's workers were individuals. Listen, we're a church not a cult. You okay? You don't I feel like I should just say that. You don't have to become the same as everybody else so that we're all robotically walking around like robots. Okay that that's not they were individuals. They all had individual gifts. They had individual passions. Like somebody rolled up and said give me the dung gate. Like they all had different passions, unity doesn't mean that we lose who God made us to be. It means that all of that becomes secondary to the worship of Jesus. The only thing you have to lose in biblical community is your sin. And praise God, we get to lose our sin.”

#MissionOverHobbies
“But biblical community doesn't gather around hobbies. That's not bad. It's not bad to do. I'm just telling you biblical community gathers around the Bible and how we can follow Jesus more closely. So if you're looking for community and you're consistently disappointed because no one likes the same things you like, then ask yourself the question, am I the only person in this church that likes the great commission? And you're not. The question when we're trying to find biblical community is not, are they all like me, but are they all committed to the same mission that I'm committed to?”

#WhenNoveltyWearsWorkBegins
“Nehemiah doesn't even address the haters. He prays and calls them back to work. I know that we look at this and we see maybe ourselves sometimes, right, where a lack of faith creeps in and the enemy comes in and makes us doubt what we're doing and maybe it's not worth it and we should just go somewhere else and do something else. When the novelty wears off, the work begins. When the newness of following Jesus starts to fade, now the work of sanctification steps in. We can't love the hype more than we love the savior.”

#ServiceAsWorship
“See God had done so much for them and now their service to rebuild this city was an act of worship back to their God. They were not serving to make it on the Instagram. They were not serving because it was a cool thing to do. They were not serving because they felt like it's the only way they get to heaven after the the week that they had had. They were serving because they loved god so much. They thought this is the least I can do for the god who has given me everything.”

#PrayThenWork
“What does Nehemiah do after he prays? Read it. We built the wall. opposition comes, people that are some conflict, there's some community like things are going on, we're gonna pray and then we're gonna build the we're gonna get to work. When novelty wears, the work begins. Now the wall was joined together to half its height for the people who had a mind to work. God will let you sit it out and you'll miss it. So maybe this I thought maybe this didn't need to be said but maybe I should say it. Don't be a sand ballot or a Tobiah. Don't be the don't be those guys. Don't be the one who sits it out and says, I think I'll get to heaven based on something I did thirty years ago. Be one of the ones who has a mind to work.”

#ForgivenessInCommunity
“Here's the truth, if you're gonna live in biblical community, you're gonna get disappointed. Why do you think most of the commands in the New Testament are about forgiving each other? You think that was just a them thing? That was just a problem in Ephesus. Glad we don't have that problem in Fredericksburg. We're perfect. Like here's the deal, if you're gonna live in biblical community you're gonna have to fight through disappointment. I'm gonna let you down. And you know what that's a good thing. It is a good thing. You know why? Because it teaches you that I'm not worthy of your worship.”

#DependOnJesusNotLeaders
“I'm following Jesus just like you. I'm not worthy to be put on a pedestal and have a bunch of people stake their entire faith on what I have to say. I'm a man. Do know who is worthy of our worship? Jesus is. And he will never disappoint you. He will never abandon you. He will never let you down. He will never forsake you or forget you. Like this is why it's good that sometimes I can't do everything for you or our elders can't do or your community group leader can't do everything for you because then you have to learn to depend on Jesus.”
