#YouAreHeld
“``A branch doesn't have to cling on to the vine. The vine holds it. The branch simply has to allow it, allow itself to be held, simply has to continue saying yes, to continue saying yes. And so if you feel that today, that sense that you have been trying to grip onto him, I think the spirit wants to say to you today, you're not just holding on. You are held. I am holding you.”

#AbideInLove
“You no longer need to sit under the shame that you have felt. Your sins, your inability to change, the ways that you have let God down, I am coming to remove the sin and the shame, to lay down my life, to remove that shame, and to connect you to God forever in a way that cannot be undone. What you couldn't do for yourself, I will do for you. I will connect you to God in perfect union, and you will bear endless fruit. And to get all of that, here's what you have to do. Abide in me. That's it. Abide in my love.”

#WhatAreYouAbidingIn
“You allow it into your eyes, your mind. It comes into your heart, your internal world. It makes its home in you, and you make your home in it. So, like, what are you up to, babe? Oh, not much. I'm just abiding in the algorithms that my social media provider has decided to lay out for me, and I'm allowing the algorithms that my social media provider has decided to lay out for me to abide in me. What about you? Yes, I am. We don't think of it as abiding, but that's what it is. Have you ever thought about when you're consuming content online or when you're mindlessly scrolling or the company that you keep, you are opening yourself, your mind, your heart, and saying, come in and make your home in me. So what are you abiding in?”

#AbideNotConform
“You see, the question is not, are you abiding or not? The question is, what are you abiding in? What are you allowing to occupy your thought life, your heart, your mind, your ambitions, your desires? We're always abiding in something. And so Paul talks about being conformed to the patterns of the world, and these things become the patterns of our internal world. We get conformed by all sorts of things. Right? Be it fear or anxiety or jealousy or ruthless ambition or regret. These seem things kind of seem to come in by osmosis. But then there's all sorts of things that we actively alloy in because we abide in them. We don't think of it as abiding when we binge watch a TV show for the second time or when we scroll socials for an hour. But that's what it is.”

#PrunedForFruit
“And I get nervous doing that because I don't know exactly what I'm doing, But you know who does know exactly what he's doing? Is god the master vinedresser? He knows exactly what he is doing. When he prunes, when he cuts off those parts of our lives that are not bearing fruit, he knows what he is doing, and he will if you abide in him. He will make your life truly beautiful. And what must I do? Abide in his love.”

#TrueVineLife
“That's the significance of Jesus' words here. He is saying, outside of him, people are a bit like cut flowers, cut off from the source of life. And they bloom for a time, and then they wither, he says. I have come to be the true vine, to connect you to the source of life so you will not fade away even in death because I have overcome death itself. Abide in me, and even when you face the very worst of enemies, you will not be destroyed because you are not on your own anymore. You're not cut off and running out of time, surviving on water in a vase. You are a branch connected to the vine, the source of life, and even death itself will not separate you from me.”

#JesusIsTheVine
“Now there's two important implications for us today that Jesus is divine. And the first is this, where I have failed, Jesus has not. Israel had failed in their task of being a vine that bore fruit and revealed God to the world. So coming to worship every week and walking under those grapes was actually like being reminded of their failure. But when Jesus says, I am the vine, he's removing that shame from them. He's removing that pressure from them. He says, no. I am the vine. You are the branches.”

#ChristLivesInYou
“So you're in the vine. You're in Christ, and Christ is in you, and now you no longer operate out of your own strength, your own energy, your own little supply of water at the bottom of a vase. Whose energy do you have now? Well, whose supply of strength are you connected to? All the energy Christ so powerfully works in me. Jesus is saying, right now, I live, I dwell, I reside in you. Like, that will knock you out of your seat if you really think about it. Jesus, right now, is really spiritually, actually dwelling in you.”
