Jesus gives a prayer the early church prayed three times a day. The Lord’s Prayer trains a disciple to approach God in relationship, with respect, and in recognition of his reign. The prayer sets the heart to accept responsibility for assignment, lean into daily reliance, practice repentance, and hold steady with resolve until praise breaks out in rejoicing. The text leads a believer to say, not my will, but yours be done, then to live that confession on the job, in the neighborhood, and in the home as a citizen of the kingdom on mission.

The prayer refuses a self-centered agenda. God is not a divine bellhop or a consecrated concierge. Prayer is a check-in call with the Head of State. A disciple comes to receive the King’s agenda for the day, not to secure blessing for a private list. When what is important to God becomes important to his people, what is important to his people becomes important to God.

The doxology lands the prayer where it began, with God. “Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.” Doxology means a word of glory. Before amen, praise names who rules, who acts, and who gets the credit. The repeated yours settles the matter. The kingdom belongs to God. The power belongs to God. The glory belongs to God. Not only today, but forever.

“Yours is the kingdom” calls a disciple to surrender to God’s kingship and to stop building a personal brand. David already sang it: greatness, power, glory, victory, and majesty belong to the Lord, because everything in heaven and on earth is his. Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way that sanity returns when pride bows and the creature admits the Creator’s rule. A believer walks into a hostile workplace as a carrier of that kingdom, which is why rooms shift when holiness arrives.

“Yours is the power” rejects human leverage and invites divine action. God’s power works in his people beyond what they ask or think. The Spirit who raised Jesus gives life to mortal bodies. Testimony insists that medical reports, gatekeepers, and denials do not have the final word. Weakness becomes the place where grace does its finest work.

“Yours is the glory” settles the finish line. It is not over until God gets the glory. Business droughts, strained marriages, and tight seasons do not write the story. Praise belongs to the Lamb who was slain and now reigns. Not to us, but to his name goes all the glory. So prayer ends with a word of glory and a life that matches it.
