Day 1: Scattered Seeds, Unshaken Roots
Peter wrote to believers scattered like seeds across hostile soil. He named their exile: Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia. These were not abstract “struggles” but real people fleeing swords and torches. Yet he called them “chosen” – not for their perfection, but because God’s Spirit made them holy. Peter knew failure: three denials, a severed ear, a return to fishing nets. But Jesus had tracked him down by Galilee’s shore, asking, “Do you love Me?” [03:51]
God chooses the scattered and the shattered. His election isn’t a reward for good behavior but a rescue mission for those mid-failure. Peter’s letter declares that our identity isn’t rooted in geography, success, or stability, but in Christ’s blood-sprinkled claim on us.
You might feel like a discarded seed today – uprooted, buried under life’s chaos. But what if your scattering is God’s planting? Where have you assumed your failures disqualify you from being used by God?
“To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”
(1 Peter 1:1-2, NIV)
Prayer: Ask Jesus to help you trust His choice of you, even when you feel unequipped.
Challenge: Write down one area where you’ve felt “scattered” this week. Pray over it for 2 minutes.
