Bible ReadingHebrews 6:1–201–3. Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.
[54:36]4–6. It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
[01:11:23]7–8. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.
[01:14:14]9–12. Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
[01:19:18]13–15. When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
[01:29:06]16–18. People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
[01:30:39]19–20. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
[01:33:33]John 10:28–2928–29. “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”
[01:15:18]Matthew 7:15–2315–20. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
[01:08:54]21–23. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

Interpretation questions- Hebrews 6 gives a serious warning, then calls the readers “dear friends” and speaks of “things that have to do with salvation.” How does that change the way verses 4–8 should be read in their immediate context? [01:11:23]
- Jesus says that fruit reveals the kind of tree it is. What is the difference between doing religious activity to appear acceptable and living in the fruit that comes from truly knowing Christ? [01:08:54]
- John 10:28–29 says that Christ’s sheep are secure in the hands of the Son and the Father. How can that assurance encourage faithful obedience without becoming an excuse for spiritual laziness? [01:15:18]

Application questions- Hebrews calls believers to move beyond the Christian ABCs into maturity. In what area does growth seem most needed right now: trusting God in hardship, knowing Scripture, prayer, fellowship, serving others, or turning away from a repeated sin? What would one faithful next step look like this week? [01:02:33]
- Dead works cannot make anyone right with God; Christ’s finished work is enough. Is there a place where acceptance with God is being measured by performance, church activity, knowledge, or the opinions of others? How can faith be redirected to Christ alone? [59:13]
- Genuine faith bears fruit, though no believer bears fruit perfectly. What fruit of a changed heart has God been growing, and what area of life needs to be honestly brought before Him for change? [01:10:45]
- God does not forget labor done in love for His people. Is there a hidden act of service, encouragement, prayer, visiting, giving, or practical help that could be offered this week simply unto the Lord, without needing recognition? [01:21:29]
- Complacency can slowly pull a believer away from daily dependence on Christ. What tends to make spiritual life passive or distracted, and what simple daily rhythm of Scripture, prayer, worship, or fellowship could help resist that drift? [01:26:04]
- Christ is the anchor of the soul, while circumstances, money, health, ability, and approval can all shift quickly. When anxiety or disappointment hits, what does the heart most often look to for security, and how can it be brought back to Jesus? [01:35:05]
- Jesus has opened access to the mercy seat through His sacrifice. What would it look like to make fuller use of that access this week by coming honestly to God in prayer rather than carrying fear, shame, or burdens alone? [28:36]
