A mother’s influence, whether biological or spiritual, leaves a lasting mark on her children and those she pours into, shaping their character, faith, and future. The choices, attitudes, and faith of a mother can set a trajectory for generations, for better or for worse. Even in difficult circumstances or broken homes, God often provides other women to step in and nurture, guide, and model Christlikeness. The legacy of a mother’s love, prayers, and example can overcome adversity and inspire children to pursue God’s calling on their lives. [24:09]
Ezekiel 16:44 (ESV)
"Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you: 'Like mother, like daughter.'"
Reflection: Who is someone in your life—child, friend, or neighbor—whom you can intentionally encourage or guide today, knowing your influence may shape their future?
The sincere faith of mothers and grandmothers can be a powerful foundation for the next generation, as seen in the lives of Lois, Eunice, and Timothy. When faith is lived out authentically and taught diligently, it becomes a heritage that strengthens and equips children to face life’s challenges with courage, love, and a sound mind. Even if you didn’t have a godly example growing up, God can use you to begin a new legacy of faith for your family and those around you. [53:00]
2 Timothy 1:3-7 (ESV)
"I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."
Reflection: What is one way you can intentionally model or share your faith with the next generation today, whether in your family or church community?
Teaching children the Scriptures from a young age and modeling godly living is a gift that will guide them throughout life, even if they stray for a season. The truths and values instilled by mothers and spiritual mentors become a compass, helping children return to God’s path. Your example and instruction matter deeply, and God promises that His Word will not return void. [55:45]
2 Timothy 3:14-15 (ESV)
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
Reflection: Is there a specific Scripture or biblical truth you can teach or discuss with a child or young person in your life today?
There is no greater joy for a parent or spiritual mentor than to see their children walking in the truth. Even when the journey is difficult and children make mistakes, the ultimate reward is witnessing them embrace and live out the faith and values you have poured into them. This joy is a reminder to keep praying, teaching, and loving, trusting God with the results. [57:19]
3 John 1:4 (ESV)
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."
Reflection: Who can you pray for by name today, asking God to help them walk in His truth and to encourage your heart as you wait on Him?
No matter your past or the family you came from, God can redeem your story and use you to build a new legacy. Through repentance, surrender, and the power of the Holy Spirit, anyone can become a godly influence—whether as a mother, father, or spiritual mentor. God provides the strength, wisdom, and community needed to walk in His ways and to pour into others, both inside and outside the church walls. [01:13:43]
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
Reflection: What is one area of your life or family history you need to surrender to God today, trusting Him to bring healing and to use you as a blessing to others?
Today is a day to turn down the volume of life and honor the mothers among us—those who have given birth, those who have adopted, and those who have stepped in as spiritual mothers to children not their own. The influence of a godly mother, or a woman who pours into the lives of others, is immeasurable and often shapes the very fabric of our families, our church, and even our nation. Many of the great leaders and faithful servants throughout history have been molded by the love, sacrifice, and example of mothers and mother-figures. Their prayers, their teaching, and their steadfastness have left a legacy that outlives them.
Scripture reminds us that the impact of a mother is generational. As Ezekiel says, “Like mother, like daughter,” and Paul points to Timothy’s faith, which first lived in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. The seeds sown by mothers—whether good or bad—bear fruit in the lives of their children and beyond. The stories of biblical mothers like Hannah, Elizabeth, and Jochebed (Moses’ mother) show us that a mother’s faith and courage can change the course of history. Even when circumstances are hard, or when a mother is not present, God is faithful to provide others to step in and nurture, guide, and love.
It is not just biological mothers who matter. Every woman in the church has the opportunity to be a spiritual mother, to pour into the next generation, to model Christ’s love, and to teach truth. The call is to be intentional about what we pass down—our attitudes, our faith, our traditions—because children will often imitate what they see more than what they hear. We must be careful to model humility, compassion, and integrity, and to teach our children to love like Jesus, even in a world that is often hostile to the things of God.
No one is promised tomorrow. The prayers and presence of a mother or spiritual mother can be the difference in a child’s life. Today, let us honor those who have poured into us, and let us commit to being those who pour into others. Whether you are a mother, a grandmother, or a woman who simply loves and serves, your role is vital in God’s kingdom. May we all seek to be women and men who follow God’s playbook, love sacrificially, and leave a legacy of faith.
