Honoring Dallas Willard: A Legacy of Gratitude and Generosity
Summary
In reflecting on the life and legacy of Dallas Willard, we gather to honor a man whose profound impact on our spiritual journeys cannot be overstated. Dallas was a beacon of wisdom and generosity, always willing to share his insights and time with anyone who sought his counsel. His life was a testament to the power of living with a clear vision of God's eternal kingdom, and he encouraged us to embrace this vision in our own lives. Dallas's last words, "thank you," encapsulate a life lived in gratitude and service to others. As we remember him, we are reminded of the importance of gratitude in our own lives, taking a moment to thank God for the blessings and lessons Dallas imparted to us.
Dallas's generosity was not just in his teachings but in his very being. He was a man who gave freely of his thoughts and ideas, encouraging us to take what we needed from his work and apply it to the kingdom of God. His writings, though dense and profound, are treasures waiting to be explored and utilized. Day 2: Generosity Beyond Material Gifts
Dallas Willard exemplified generosity not just through material means but through the sharing of his wisdom and insights. His life challenges us to be open-handed with our own knowledge and resources, impacting others for the kingdom of God. This kind of generosity requires a spirit of abundance, trusting that as we give, we will also receive. By sharing what we have, we participate in a divine exchange that enriches both the giver and the receiver. [05:33]

Quotes
I thought about Dallas's last words before he died as to last words were thank you and I thought we could take a moment just to be quiet before we listen to everybody else and just give thanks to God for Dallas and Jane and the ministry and our Lord and Savior Jesus and just in salads whatever you want to say to the Lord let's just let gratitude go up from our hearts today. [00:01:34]
We give you praise and we give you thanks Lord for the life of Dallas we thank you for what you did in his life the way you took upon him away and poured yourself into him because he desired you and you glorified your name through him we thank you we thank you for in touching our lives and we pray that the things that he has passed on to us that we would we would take those things and we would put them to work in the kingdom of God. [00:02:38]
I had a picture the Lord gave me and it was a group of people and I could see it was family members but it was more than family members and we were gathered in an attorney's office for the reading of the last will and testament our Dallas Willard and there was an attorney behind the desk and his back was turned to us he was in this big chair high back chair we didn't know couldn't see him he was shuffling papers and we were all expected it was one of these old movie scenes from the forties you know where I wonder what I'm going to get when the will is read and the chair turned around and it was Dallas and he looked at us and he said take whatever you want it's all for you. [00:04:29]
He was just so generous with everything every idea every thought you could come and approach anybody in the church on any level could come and ask him for counsel or help and he would just sit down and talk to you I had the privilege of doing some work up at the wizard house and he always wanted to pay me for it, I've got there to fix the fence now a workman is worthy of their hire bill you know and I was saying Dallas what do you do with a blessing and you would say we should receive it. [00:05:33]
I just you know he poured himself into his work for others he wanted more time on this earth for others he wanted to complete a few things because he wanted to impact our lives and the only thing I would say is that most of what he passed on was very very heavy and it was very dense and I know a lot of people go out and buy Dallas Willard books and they just put them on the shelf and they say you know I have Dallas Willard book but did I you know because you can't read more than a paragraph at a time but I want to encourage you whatever you want from Dallas take it and use it whatever it might be just take it and put it to work in the kingdom of God don't just have a momento. [00:06:10]
I love the prayer on the bookmark here it says my prayer for you this is a prayer that Dallas gave to almost all of his students he says that you would have a rich life of joy and power abundant and supernatural results with a constant clear vision of never ending life in God's world before you and of the everlasting significance of your work day by day a radiant life and death and it's a one of those dents Dallas Willard prayers but it was his life. [00:07:17]
Many of you know that just before he died the day before he died his blood pressure dropped and Gary Black was with him and Gary as a writer and began to ask him what he was experiencing and he said I'm moving down the hallway and at the end of the hallway there are people greeting me and they have more love than I could ever Express or imagined and he told Gary he said I've talked about the great cloud of witnesses but now I'm experiencing the great cloud of witnesses. [00:07:47]
At 6:55 on Wednesday he joined the great he went all the way down the hall and joined them and walked into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus and at the end of the service we're going to put a picture up it was taken at 6:57 a.m. up near rocky peak and you'll see it and it's a sunrise and it if you look closely you could see the Lord with his arms outstretched welcoming Dallas. [00:08:22]
In our group was a young lady who was a beautiful Christian as well as a fine musician she would play the accordion and the man would join in enthusiastically with the songs and hymns there was one song in particular that they rarely if ever failed to request I've seen the Lightning flashing I've heard the Thunder roll I felt since breakers dashing trying to conquer my soul I've heard the voice of Jesus telling me still to fight on he promised never to leave me never to leave me alone. [00:09:47]
Further in the chapter Delos makes one of his amazing statements about God's presence in our lives he says he is able to penetrate and intertwine himself within the fibers of the human self in such a way that those who are enveloped and his loving companionship will never be alone this surely is the meaning of the great affirmation at the end of Romans 8 who will separate us from the love of Christ. [00:10:40]
He adds this comment even our anguish over those dear to us can be completely put to rest when we see they were living in the presence from which nothing can separate them. [00:11:09]
