#WorshipGodNotGovernment
“``As we head into an election year this fall, I think it's important to note that there is only one savior of the world and he is not on the ballot. And so we shouldn't worship our government. We shouldn't worship our political leaders. We as Christians should not follow political leaders with some sort of cult like allegiance. And that is a temptation in America on both the right and the left. And so we would be care we would do well to be careful not to give the government more than it's due. Not to treat the government as if it is God himself. Not to look to the government to be our savior. No, we recognize our government and our political leaders for what they are. They are imperfect, sinful people to whom God has given the responsibility of governing. And as such, they are worthy of our honor but not our worship. We honor the government but we worship God alone.”

“One way that I think we often do that is when we think and act as if God has somehow lost control when we see the government do something bad. When you see the government do something bad, I would encourage you to think of the worst thing that any government has ever done. That could be a long list. Right? What is the worst thing that any government has ever done? I would suggest to you that it was when the Romans took a man who was completely innocent in every way. And they knew that he had done nothing wrong. And yet they still nailed him to a cross and let him hang there until he died. But you know what God did. Right? God took that worst government action ever and he used it to literally save the world.”

“But you know what God did. Right? God took that worst government action ever and he used it to literally save the world. So if you find yourself in a situation where maybe your candidate has lost an election or a court decision doesn't go your way or our country gets into a conflict, maybe just take a deep breath. Recognize that God has not lost control. His will will still be done. God will still gather his people to his side in heaven. And so we don't need to freak out. We can recognize that God will work through all things no matter how bad they may seem.”

#HonorAuthorityEvenUnderPersecution
“The emperor Nero. You heard of him? I won't go into too much detail because I do wanna keep this PG, the emperor Nero was kind of notorious for doing things like murdering his political opponents as well as his wife and his mother. He famously fiddled while Rome burned. He found creative ways to gruesomely execute Christians. And as all of that was just beginning to happen, the apostle Peter wrote a letter to Christians instructing them how to live while all of this was going on. And do you know what Peter said to them? Honor the emperor.”
