God calls His people to live differently from the world, not blending in but standing out as a reflection of His holiness and love. This means making daily choices to focus on what unites us as believers, rather than what divides, and to let our lives be marked by mercy, grace, and a desire to be more like Christ. Even when the world feels dark or broken, you are invited to remember your identity as one of God’s chosen people, set apart to bring hope and light wherever you go. [10:33]
1 Peter 2:9-12 (ESV)
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation."
Reflection: In what area of your life do you most feel the pull to blend in with the world, and what is one specific way you can choose to stand out for Christ this week?
The world is watching how Christians live, and our actions can either reflect Christ or ourselves. By choosing to let our good deeds shine—not for our own praise, but so that God is glorified—we become beacons of hope, peace, and love in a dark world. Even small acts of kindness or integrity can have a profound impact, showing others a glimpse of God’s character and inviting them to experience His goodness. [25:44]
Matthew 5:16 (ESV)
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
Reflection: What is one simple act of kindness or integrity you can do today that would let God’s light shine through you to someone who may need hope?
Despite differences in background, doctrine, or denomination, the church is called to focus on what unites us: our shared faith in Christ and our common mission to love and serve others. When we choose unity over division, we reflect the heart of God and demonstrate to the world what it means to be His people. This unity is not about uniformity, but about coming together around the essentials and letting love be the bond that holds us together. [01:45]
Ephesians 4:3-6 (ESV)
"…eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
Reflection: Is there someone in your church or Christian community with whom you have a difference? How can you take a step toward unity by focusing on what you share in Christ?
Being set apart means living with integrity not just on Sundays, but every day and in every place—at work, at home, and in public. The consistency of your character, even when no one seems to notice, is a powerful testimony to the reality of Christ in you. When you are tempted to compromise or blend in, remember that your true identity is found in being God’s child, and let that shape your words, actions, and attitudes. [23:50]
Proverbs 11:3 (ESV)
"The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them."
Reflection: Think of a situation this week where you might be tempted to compromise your integrity—how can you prepare now to respond in a way that honors God?
The things of this world—possessions, status, comfort—are fleeting, but a relationship with God is eternal. As temporary residents and foreigners in this world, we are called to keep our hearts set on Christ, seeking to know Him more and to reflect His character in all we do. This means daily choosing to put God first, letting His Spirit shape us, and finding our deepest satisfaction in Him rather than in what we can achieve or acquire. [20:27]
Colossians 3:1-3 (ESV)
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Reflection: What is one earthly desire or pursuit that tends to distract you from God, and how can you intentionally seek Him first in that area today?
In a world that feels increasingly divided and chaotic, it’s easy to let the spirit of competition, comparison, and conflict seep into our lives—even into our churches. But God calls us to something radically different. Rather than focusing on our differences—be it denominational lines, personal struggles, or the circumstances that threaten to define us—we are invited to focus on what unites us: the mercy, grace, and calling of God. The real church is not about being better than others or having the “right” set of rules. It’s about being a people set apart, chosen by God, and reflecting His holiness in a world desperate for hope.
We all have a choice in what we focus on. Life is full of disappointments, frustrations, and things beyond our control. Yet, just as we can choose to dwell on what’s broken, we can also choose to see God’s goodness, to remember His mercy, and to live out of that identity. God’s response to our failures is not condemnation, but grace. He doesn’t squash us like bugs when we fall short; instead, He invites us to live differently, to be a light in the darkness.
Being set apart doesn’t mean being perfect or holier-than-thou. It means letting God’s Spirit shape us so that our lives look different from the world around us. Whether it’s in the way we treat others at work, the way we handle conflict, or the small acts of kindness we offer, we have daily opportunities to reflect Christ. Sometimes, it’s the simplest gestures—a held door, a kind word—that shine the brightest.
Our identity is not in our achievements, possessions, or even our ability to keep every rule. It’s in being chosen by God, loved unconditionally, and called to be His royal priests. This world is not our permanent home; we are temporary residents, called to live honorably among our neighbors so that even those who don’t believe might see something different in us and give glory to God.
Ultimately, the real church stands out not because it’s louder or flashier, but because it radiates peace, hope, humility, and holiness. We are called to let our good deeds shine—not for our own praise, but so that others might see God’s love through us. Every day is a new opportunity to choose to be set apart, to be a reflection of God’s heart, and to show the world a glimpse of His majesty.

There's so many different ways we can look different from the world. And sometimes we can show the world different and we'll never know what that does for a person. So many stories you hear about in the other side where someone says, oh, somebody held a door for me. I was having a bad day. Somebody saved a seat for me. Something simple sometimes goes such a long way. You never know what the other person is dealing with in their life. And we can either be a reflection of who Christ is or we can be a reflection of ourselves. [00:08:32] (46 seconds) #SmallActsBigImpact
You doing your best and realizing and choosing I want to do better in this area helps show that you are a child of God. We're called to reflect God's light. I did a sermon several months ago where I brought up a mirror. And you know, you can make a small little light and you can reflect it over and over and you can make the small little light. Something huge. That's the purpose of the church. It's not that God needs us. It's that God chooses us. He asks us to step up and step out and to be his light within the world. God doesn't call us to be absolutely perfect. God doesn't call us to walk around in high robes, to shun...No, he calls us to look inside ourselves and say, what way can I improve myself? What way can I be more of a pure reflection of who you are based on your word? Ten commandments aren't nothing. It's rules by which to live by. And when you live by them, generally our lives are better in this world. It's not rocket science. The biggest part is that it's choosing for God to be first and not me to be first. That I put who he is as my inside core. [00:18:11] (53 seconds) #LiveByFaith
We're not like the world any longer. We're chosen by God. We're royal priests. At one point, we had identity as people of this world. With a relationship with God, we are now God's people. Once you received no mercy, now you have received God's mercy. [00:19:07] (35 seconds) #RoyalPriests
How do I build my relationship with Christ so that I can be in pure reflection of who God wants me to be? We're temporary residents and foreigners of this world. Keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior and they will give honor to God when he judges the world. [00:20:43] (39 seconds) #HonorGodDaily
If Sunday morning me is a different person than Monday through Saturday me, how does the world see that? How does the world see the way that I live every other day of the week but our hour here? If my language isn't different at work, and I'll tell you, most of the time, nobody even notices. It's easy to slip up with language at work, but it comes to me being known for who I want to be and being true to that on an everyday basis. To live set apart, to be accepted as being chosen and different from the world. [00:23:17] (52 seconds) #LiveSetApartEveryday
The real church doesn't blend in. The real church doesn't look like the world. The real church stands out. The real church gives peace, hope, humility. We're clothed with holiness. [00:25:14] (27 seconds) #RealChurchStandsOut
Let your good deeds shine for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly, heavenly Father. Let your good deeds stand apart, not so that we bring praise, not so that we're, but that God is praised because of what we can do. Be set apart. Choose to be set apart. Choose to be like God.
