The church was not a human invention or an afterthought. It is the central, eternal plan of God, conceived in His wisdom before the foundation of the world. It exists to display His multifaceted wisdom to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. This divine origin means the church carries a purpose and a power that transcends any human organization. It is an organism, alive and breathing, intended to be the primary expression of Christ on earth. [22:37]
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21, ESV)
Reflection: What difference does it make in your perspective to know that the church is God's eternal idea and not merely a human institution? How might this truth change the way you prioritize and participate in the life of the church?
Through faith in Christ, we are adopted into God's own family. This is not a secondary status but a primary identity, granted to us because God desired a family. The local church is the practical expression of this spiritual family on earth, a place where we belong and are called to build one another up. It is a community meant for edification, exhortation, and comfort, stirring up our love for God and for each other. [24:20]
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12, ESV)
Reflection: In what practical ways can you actively participate in building up and encouraging your spiritual family this week, moving beyond being a spectator to being a engaged member of the household of God?
There is a sacredness to gathering as God's people. The house of God is a place set apart for encountering Him through worship and His Word. Therefore, how we conduct ourselves matters; we are called to be considerate of others, minimizing distractions so that everyone can receive what they need from the Lord. This is an act of love and respect for God and for our brothers and sisters. [31:42]
I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:14-15, ESV)
Reflection: As you prepare to gather with God's people, what is one distraction you can intentionally set aside to fully engage in worship and be considerate of those around you?
Jesus Himself declared that He would build His church, and the forces of hell will not overcome it. When we build our lives on what Christ is building, we find that we are built up in the process. Furthermore, the church is God's ordained instrument to push back darkness, combat culture with truth, and confront spiritual forces. It is uniquely equipped with divine authority to deal with the enemy. [41:46]
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18, ESV)
Reflection: Where in your community or culture do you see a specific need for the light and truth of the church to push back against darkness? How can you support your local church in being that light?
Spiritual growth and health are not found in constant uprooting but in being planted. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord are promised that they will flourish and still bear fruit even in old age. This involves a commitment to not forsake gathering together, to regularly receive nourishment from worship and the Word, and to serve alongside other believers. It is in this faithful planting that we find lasting vitality. [43:57]
The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. (Psalm 92:12-13, ESV)
Reflection: What does being 'planted' in your local church look like for you in this season, and what is one step you can take to sink your roots deeper for long-term spiritual growth?
The series title "His House" centers the church as a living, breathing organism—the visible expression of God's kingdom on earth. The Greek word ecclesia frames the church as the “called-out” assembly and the house of the Lord, both a gathered place and the collective body of believers. Three primary purposes drive its existence: glorify God, edify the family of God, and evangelize the world. Locally, that mission flows through a clear pathway: lost people are saved, saved people receive pastoral care and freedom, pastored people receive training to discover gifts and calling, and trained people mobilize to reach others.
The local church functions uniquely to meet the soul’s deepest needs—support, strength, awe, worth, and significance—while also serving as the pillar and ground of truth in the earth. Worship and encounter form practical means for people to experience God; sound and atmosphere play pragmatic roles in enabling authentic participation. Corporate conduct matters: the house of God expects behavior that honors the assembly and protects others’ access to truth, avoiding needless distractions so the word can minister freely.
Twelve theological reasons undergird affection for the church: it is God’s idea, God’s family, eternal in scope, Christ’s body, the pillar of truth, a place demanding reverent conduct, loved and purchased by Christ, protected by Christ, uniquely equipped to meet human needs, a venue for earthly investment with eternal reward, the only entity Christ promised to build, and the place of spiritual nourishment. Authority and spiritual warfare arise through the church’s identity; Christ builds the church, unlocks heaven’s doors, and resists the powers of hell toward it. Practical discipleship emerges from steady rhythms—daily prayer, weekly gathering for worship and the word, and regular service—which cultivate rooted spiritual growth.
The concluding challenge reframes participation as privilege: being part of God’s house places people into an eternal project with measurable spiritual fruit. Those planted in the house of the Lord receive nourishment, grow strong, bear fruit over time, and participate in the unfolding of God’s redemptive purpose across generations.
If you think about God, what does God really need? I mean, think about it. There's nothing he needs. He like, God doesn't need prosperity or food or health or clothing or any. God didn't need that. But I think this is the one thing he wanted. He wanted a family. Adam and Eve were about family. The church is about family, and to prove it, we're the bride of Christ. That's family talk right there. We'll get to that in a minute, but it's a family. Here's number three. You ready? Check this out. The church is eternal.

Here's my my understanding of that. You ready? If you want your life to be built, build your life on what God's building. Put you the church at the center of your growth, and I promise you, you will grow. I started dating Michelle. I kid you not. I started dating Michelle. I'm 16, 17 years old, whatever it was. Alright? I I don't remember. I started dating Michelle. Her dad told her told me I had to go to church with her every weekend. I show up the first weekend, think we're going to church. Guess where we go? To the nursery. We I started going to church with Michelle and serving in the nursery. I'm like, if y'all knew me, you probably wouldn't have me here. Come on, y'all. And

If you're saved and born again, you will never not be a part of something eternal. You're a part of the eternal thing called the church. Listen to this. To him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to, help me out, all generations forever and ever, so be it. Amen. That's right. To all generations, we are a part of something that will outlive the earth. Do you realize that? The bible says heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word will not pass away. The heaven and the earth that is now is gonna be consumed by fire at one point in time in the future. After the thousand year millennial reign, God is gonna make a new heaven and new earth. But you know what? Guess who's gonna inhabit the earth or the new heaven and new earth? The church.

Come on. Y'all know what I'm saying? And I think, and I'm a I'm a get on this here in a little bit, I think we've lost that to a degree that this is God's house. It's in my house, in your house, and how how we conduct ourselves matters in the house of God. Nevertheless, you get the idea. So listen to this. You ready? Get this. Why does the church exist? And I'm gonna give you this very simple definition here. Number one, glorification of God. We exist to glorify God. Can I get an amen on that? That's our number one job, to glorify God. The second reason is to edification of the family of God. We're to edify each other. We're to build up, stir up, and cheer up each other. Amen?

Watch this. What would your family look like in twenty years if together you did three things. I'm telling you, this has been Michelle and I's pattern. This has been our pattern of life, prayer daily. Now I'm not talking Michelle prays on her own, I pray on my own. But my kids, every time they when they got up and when they went to bed, they were prayed for every day till they were 18. Then it got weird, but I still pray for them. K? Just saying. Prayed for them daily. But watch this. Attended services. That means worship and word together weekly. We were always in church every week. Before I was a pastor, every week we were in church. Didn't matter if you came home at 02:00.

And I got to I got to thinking about it. I'm like, how come lost people aren't getting saved here? Because we're scary, and we're scaring them. So I came out and I said, hey. Listen. We wanna move in the gifts. We believe in the operation of the spirit of God. We believe in all those things. But you know what? We are not going to sacrifice our what we feel versus reaching the lost. We always should have people being saved. Always. How many of you know? It's a flourishing opportunity. Pastors fighting over their 12 listen. There are plenty enough sinners to go around. There's so many sinners. It's like there's never a recession. But anyway, listen to this. Saved people are pastored. That's important.

If something's going on and it's distracting people who've actually looked forward all week to come into the house of God to learn the word of God, let's be considerate of our neighbors so that we're not destroying or wrecking what they may need to hear that week so they can just make it through the week. Let's be courteous towards each other. And I'll be honest with you. This has really taken root in the last twenty years. When I first started pastoring, people came in, sat down. It was hard to get them to raise their hands. Now it's like speaking to a revolving congregation. You know? Phones are going off. Kids are screaming. This is happening. That's happening. And people are like, I didn't get anything out of it. Do you see where I'm coming from?

Do you believe that? God Jesus loves his church. Husbands, love your wives. Help me out. Just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her. Look at this. That he might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of the water of the word. That he might present her to himself a glorious church. Jesus loves the church. He talks about her like a bride. You ever seen a dude show up and go, yeah. I'm not really into her. That's how people treat the church, though. Jesus doesn't feel that way. He says it's a glorious church. He says a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle. She don't even need makeup. Y'all didn't y'all y'all didn't see that in there until I pointed it out. Spots and wrinkles or any such thing. She's beautiful. That's how Jesus feels about the church.
